2012-06-11 Thread Serrano Pereira
A can confirm what cro wrote, only I use the Desktop Wall instead of the
Desktop Cube. That means that we now have three very different
workarounds for this bug.

[Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white

2012-06-08 Thread Serrano Pereira
In my case, setting just the "Focus Animation" to "None" does work. Even
with a "Minimize Animation" set. Occasionally however, menu's still
display all white (whilst remaining clickable). But this happens rarely.

[Compiz] [Bug 1007976] Re: Windows jump to different workspace when switching workspace

2012-06-04 Thread Serrano Pereira
** Description changed:

This bug happens in Gnome Classic when the "Ubuntu Unity" plugin is
- disabled in Compiz. You must also have at least three
- workspaces/desktops horizontally in order to reproduce this.
+ disabled in Compiz and the Workspace Switcher applet is added to the
+ panel. You must also have at least three workspaces/desktops
+ horizontally in order to reproduce this.

When a maximized window is on workspace #2 or higher (horizontally), and
you move to a workspace on the right of the window, all maximized
windows on the left of that workspace jump to the workspace on the far
  left (workspace #1).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Choose "Gnome Classic" at the login screen and log in.
- 2) Use `ccsm' (CompizConfig Settings Manager) to disable the "Ubuntu Unity"
plugin. Also make sure that "Horizontal Virtual Size" is set to at least 3 in
"General Options". Optionally, enable the "Desktop Wall" plugin to easily
switch between workspaces.
- 2) Say we have four workspaces horizontally (numbered 1 to 4). Place a
maximized window on workspace #2 (doesn't matter which application, but it must
be maximized).
- 3) Use Ctrl+Alt+arrow-key (or Expo) to move to a workspace on the right
(workspace #3 or #4).
+ 2) Add the Workspace Switcher applet to the panel ([Super+]Alt+right-click on
panel to add it).
+ 3) Use `ccsm' (CompizConfig Settings Manager) to disable the "Ubuntu Unity"
plugin. Also make sure that "Horizontal Virtual Size" is set to at least 3 in
"General Options". Optionally, enable the "Desktop Wall" plugin to easily
switch between workspaces.
+ 4) Say we have four workspaces horizontally (numbered 1 to 4). Place a
maximized window on workspace #2 (doesn't matter which application, but it must
be maximized).
+ 5) Use Ctrl+Alt+arrow-key (or Expo) to move to a workspace on the right
(workspace #3 or #4).

Result: The window that was previously on workspace #2 is now on workspace #1.
Expected result: The window should stay on workspace #2.

2012-06-04 Thread Serrano Pereira
roots,

1.) I can confirm that window jumping does not occur after removing the
Workspace Switcher applet from the panel. Could it be a bug in the
Workspace Switcher applet?

2.) I cannot confirm behavior 2, where another application window is
launched on a right viewport causes maximized windows to jump. This also
does not happen when the Workspace Switcher applet is enabled.

3.) In my case, window jumping does not occur with almost-maximized
windows.

[Compiz] [Bug 1007976] Re: Windows jump to different workspace when switching workspace

2012-06-02 Thread Serrano Pereira
I discovered that the above behavior no longer happens after lowering
the screen resolution. My default resolution is 1366x768, so I used
gnome-control-center to lower the resolution to 1360x768. After that, I
can no longer reproduce the bug. I can even change back to the default
resolution without the bug to reappear.

But by logging out and back in, the bug appears again.

[Compiz] [Bug 1007976] [NEW] Windows jump to different workspace when switching workspace

2012-06-02 Thread Serrano Pereira
Public bug reported:

This bug happens in Gnome Classic (not in Unity) when the "Desktop Wall"
plugin is enabled in Compiz. You must also have at least three
workspaces/desktops horizontally in order to reproduce this.

When a window is on workspace #2 or higher (horizontally), and you move
to a workspace on the right of the window, the window jumps to the
workspace on the far left (workspace #1).

Steps to reproduce:
1) Choose "Gnome Classic" at the login screen and log in.
2) Say we have four workspaces horizontally (numbered 1 to 4). Place a window
on workspace #2 (doesn't matter which application).
3) Use Ctrl+Alt+arrow right to move to workspace #3.

Result: The window that was previously on workspace #2 is now on workspace #1.
Expected result: The window should stay on workspace #2.

[Compiz] [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

Joshua,
I don't think this is the right place to discuss compiling issues (unless it's
bug related). Maybe try the Compiz Forums instead? And you might find answers
to your compiling issues here: http://wiki.compiz.org/Installation/Development

[Compiz] [Bug 1005517] [NEW] Window blanks to white when switched to in gnome-classic

2012-05-28 Thread Serrano Pereira
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu 12.04 and use Gnome-Classic with the Unity plugin disabled.
I run a fully updated system. When switching between windows by clicking
on it with the mouse cursor, the window that is being switched to blanks
to white. This does *not* happen when using for example Compiz' Shift
Switcher or Scale plugin to switch between windows. This also does not
happen when using metacity instead of compiz (which is why I filed this
bug for the compiz package).

However, this issue does not occur when using the regular Ubuntu Unity
interface (selecting "Ubuntu" at the login screen). But Unity also uses
Compiz, so I'm not sure whether this is purely a Compiz bug.

I've attached a video demonstrating the problem.

2010-11-30 Thread Serrano Pereira
Yep, I'm getting the exact same thing as Taylor mentioned. Switching
cursor theme while Emerald is enabled doesn't work. Switching cursor
theme while GTK Window Decorator is enabled works fine, though not
perfect. The main pointer changes as expected, but the resize pointer
doesn't. I have to switch to Emerald and then back to GTK to get all
cursors right.

I selected "Metacity" as the Window Manager using fusion-icon (Metacity
was already selected). Then checked "compositing_manager" in
gconf-editor, but I didn't notice any difference (I don't really
understand why that option is useful).

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, and now application
menus sometimes don't show up. As far as I can tell, this happens
randomly for all drop and sub menus, including menus for
applets/indicators in the gnome-panel, gnome-terminal, thunderbird,
gedit, nautilus, and all other applications I've tested.

It seems to happen randomly, most of the time menus display fine, but
sometimes they don't display. Interestingly, when the menu doesn't
appear, and you move your pointer to the place where the menu should
appear, the menu suddenly appears. Also, this seems to happen once per
menu, so if a specific menu didn't display, the second time you click
that menu item, the menu does display, and will display properly the
next times you click it. But, if you restart that application, it will
start over again.

The reason I think this is a compiz problem, is because the issue
doesn't seem to happen after running 'killall compiz'. Then, when you
start compiz again with 'compiz --replace', the issue is back again.

I've attached a screenshot to make it clearer.
