[Compiz] [Bug 1779661] [NEW] Option to change Application Switcher color/opacity is broken
Public bug reported: Steps to Re-create: # Open compizconfig-settings-manager # Enable Application switcher plugin # In the plugin settings go to the general tab # In the Background section check 'Set background color' # and below that specify the desired background color and opacity Expected: Should change background color and opacity of the application switcher Actual: There's absolutely no change, even after restarting compiz IMO this is a big issue, because the defaults for the application switcher are horrible - it has a highly transparent background by default making window titles hard to read, and because this setting is broken it's impossible to change it This also happens with the equivalent setting in the Static Application switcher plugin as well IMO in addition to fixing this, the default should really be changed well to have a more opaque background for the switchers... this is an accessibility issue. Take a look at the attached screenshot, this looks horrible and the titles are hard to read ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: compiz 1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: MATE Date: Mon Jul 2 07:36:48 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 620 [8086:5916] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell HD Graphics 620 [1028:075b] InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-07-01 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:568b Realtek Semiconductor Corp. [Compiz] [Bug 755841]
Since I saw fbcompose mentioned above as a lightweight standalone compositor that can produce tear-free output working around this issue, I'd like to mention I've found another similar compositor that seems to be under more active development: Compton: https://github.com/chjj/compton Its a nice lightweight compositor that doesn't need to replace your window manager or anything, so it can easily be used to work around this issue and get tear-free output. In my testing its been very stable too. Using it with: compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --glx-no-stencil --vsync opengl-swc successfully completely removes tearing for me on both my intel machines (including in fullscreen video and with multiple displays), and performs better than using the TearFree xorg option :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1170508] [NEW] Alt-Tab should not be transparent in Low GFX Mode
Public bug reported: In Unity's low gfx mode, the dash transparency and blur is [correctly] disabled. However the alt tab switcher *only* has the blur disabled but is still transparent. This makes for severe readability and usability issues because the text becomes very unreadable when there is busy stuff under the alt tab switcher. [Compiz] [Bug 1141079] [NEW] Compiz broken with QT menus/floating controls in 13.04
Public bug reported: When using QT apps such as VLC player in ubuntu 13.04 menus and floating controls are all messed up. Whenever I bring up a right click menu in a QT app compiz thinks the menu is another window and it shows up as untitled window I saw this in xubuntu 13.04 + compiz as window manager and in a fresh 13.04 unity install. In addition if you go fullscreen in vlc or smplayer and bring up the floating controls it glitches out and stops letting you bring them up, you also occasionally see flashes of the unity launcher/menu bar when you bring them up. This is a very big regression, and QT video players are basically unusable... [Compiz] [Bug 1137665] [NEW] Random invisible menus in QT apps
Public bug reported: I'm using compiz with XFCE in fully updated 13.04 64-bit. [Compiz] [Bug 755841]
running ubuntu 13.04/kde 4.10 on my laptop (kernel 3.8/ ddx 2.21, ivybridge). kwin still tears at the top of the screen even with sna enabled and vsync on in kwin, but I assume thats just this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307965 So I tried disabling vsync in kwin and using the tearfree option which did remove all tearing, and seems to perform reasonably well for desktop usage and video playback (haven't tried anything else) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 1063690] Re: Unredirect fullscreen windows should be the default for optimal performance
Same here with intel ivybridge. If unredirect fullscreen windows is enabled you *will* get video tearing unless the application is smart enough to pageflip on its own, due to a limitation with the intel hardware/drivers. With modern intel hardware (sandybridge+;With 945gm both legacy vsync or page-flipping should work to eliminate tearing), its not possible to get tear-free output unless you are using a page-flipping compositor (like compiz). If you bypass compiz you rely on the application to properly pageflip. I tested this compiz build on ivybridge and got tearing: In totem fullscreen In firefox with flash 11.2 fullscreen In VLC with openGL output enabled I didn't get tearing: In google chrome with pepper flash 11.5, with pepper flash opengl rendering enabled in about:flags. Enabling this by default for intel users will create tearing issues for a lot of people. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063690 Title: Unredirect fullscreen windows should be the default for optimal performance To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1063690/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
