[Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Ubuntu 13.04 on a different computer; now I'm using noveau (or whatever it's called what comes by default with Ubuntu) instead of proprietary Nvidia drivers. Problem still there, but windows are now TRANSPARENT instead of black. It's not just switching windows, it's WHATEVER RANDOM WINDOW that is opened and given focus, including even popups (e.g. confirmation or error popups) and submenus. Examples: - in Gedit you hit Ctrl+H, and the Search and Replace window that pops up, at random times is transparent. - in Google Chrome you click on the menu button on the top-right corner: the submenu at random times is transparent - in Nautilus, you right-click on the background of a folder; the context menu is fine but when you choose a submenu item, the submenu comes up transparent (but it works if you know where to click blindly) All of these happen at random times, but when they start happening with a given application, they will usually keep happening systematically untill you close and relaunch that application. So how do I get the supposed fix that is supposed to have been released?!?!?!? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729979 Title: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/729979/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1239818] [NEW] Switching between windows may cause you to click on something without notice
Public bug reported: This is pretty difficult to reproduce at will, but if you accomplish it you can see it can be systematically reproduced, and this can easily happen randomly (that's how I discovered it). When it does, the consequences could be DISATROUS, so please don't underestimate the importance of this bug. Open two windows of an application. I have been able to reproduce this in Nautilus, but I think any application with multiple windows will do. Let's call the two windows WA and WB. Make sure one of these two windows are focused Now click on the application's launcher icon. This will produce a compiz animation transforming the two windows into two reduced non-overlapping previews, let's call them WAp and WBp ("Window A preview" and "Window B preview"). If you click on, for instance, WBp, both windows will go back to their full size and original position, and WB will be focused and brought to front. You can repeat this several times. Now, in order to reproduce the bug, you need to manage to place the two windows WA and WB in such a manner that: - the area occupied by real window WA virtually overlaps with the area occupied by the preview WBp. Obviously you will never see them overlap, because you either see WA and WB, or WAp and WBp, but you have to place them so that the areas of screen occupied at different times by WA and WBp overlap. - more specifically, there must be at least one point P in the screen within the area of WBp, which corresponds to a point in WA belonging to a sensitive UI element (e.g. a button) of WA. -This point P must not overlap with the area of WB So now: - click on the launcher icon so that the two previews WAp and WBp show up - click on point P => Expected result: you are clicking on WBp, so both windows should go back to their original size and position WA and WB, and WB should receive focus and brought to front, and NOTHING ELSE SHOULD HAPPEN => Observed result: all the described expected result happens, and besides that, a click at point P within WA is registered, as if WA was in its original position when you clicked (which it is not), and the click is processed. If P in the area of WA (which you are NOT seeing under the cursor when you click) belongs to a button that deletes something, then that something will be deleted without having ever clicked on the button. To sum it up: a click is registered and processed on an area of a window which is NOT what you see under the cursor when you perform the click, so you may perform totally unexpected actions. [Compiz] [Bug 1165426] [NEW] compiz suddenly starts consuming 100% CPU and hangs the whole system
Public bug reported: At random times, suddently and without apparent reason, compiz suddently starts consuming 99-100% CPU and makes the whole system unresponsive. Actually there are TWO BUGS here: - the fact itself that compiz starts eating up all that CPU (a bug in compiz by definition, whether or not accompanied by a bug in some other piece of the system) - the fact that this is enough to render the whole system unresponsive. Responsiveness to keyboard and mouse should always have the maximum priority and allow you to, for example, alt-tab and open a terminal, or, if that itself depends on compiz being able to respond, then at least respond to keyboard input in order to do e.g. ctrl+Alt+F1 which lets you open a virtual terminal. Actually by pressing ctlr+alt+F1 hundreds of time it finally caught one and let me open a virtual terminal, which is how I could figure out it was compiz who was eating 100% CPU. Also, there should be a way to kill compiz and restart it, shouldn't it? This has already happened to me a few times. This may, or may not, be related to #1162568 The differences observed are: - in this case it is 100% CPU consumption, no high disk I/O; in 1162568 it is massive disk I/O and low/normal CPU activity - In 1162568 the mere action of switching to the virtual terminal, itself stopped the issue (unless it was a lucky coincidence). In this case it didn't. [Compiz] [Bug 1007857] Re: window animations are far from smooth
This is tremendously annoying because, besides being jerky, animations take a lot more time. This is not only an aesthetic problem, this is a huge usability problem. Switching between windows is a real pain in the ass. Until this is 100% fixed for all graphics cards, all animations should be reduced to a null animation, i.e. immediately going to the final position. Please this should be very easy to do and an update with this temporary fix could be made readily available in a matter of days if not hours, while the bug is fixed which will probably take ages. Example: I had Eclipse open but minimized, I closed it by right-clicking on its icon and the "confirm exit" dialog popped up, because there was some unsaved file open. However, the window was blank white so I couldn't click either "save", "don't save", "ok" or "cancel" or whatever (I don't even remember exactly what the available options are". [Compiz] [Bug 781931] Re: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus
Here's another case, which I thought was a bug in Google Chrome but I think is a consequence of this one. Sometimes malicious websites open a maximized popup with ads or something (which for some reason Google Chrome fails to block). Then the popup is on front and maximized, but it doesn't have focus. The result is that when you click on the X to close the window, you are actually closing the window behind it which is the original one Actually being on front and having focus should be the very same thing at the deepest level exposed to applications. The concepts of "giving focus to a window" and "bringing a window to front" should not even exist as separate things. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781931 Title: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/781931/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
