It is relativly easy to reproduce for me. Right after system start and login in unity the first think I do is opening unity dash start side and type in thunderbird. Mostly I only use the first 2 or 3 letters and let the search function do the rest. On that very first search compiz crashed with this here. I would say in 50% of all cases(as suggessing). Have hit this on a other Quantal system. It is also the very first search performed with unity dash. There is no reporting problem with apport. Apport reject reports on developer versions when your system is not upgraded to the latest packages. When you start a Ubuntu run the first thing you should do is to open a terminal and run: sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade the last line also upgrades the core components like the kernel itself. When a new kernel is installed make a newstart, when only compiz and unity upgrades are there a new llogin should be enough, but a newstart is more clean. So, what you describe is a worksform problem. Sorry, that I tell it the hard way, but I close this ticket here. Anyway, thank you for reporting. I wrote in bug 1029442 : The unity-panel crashed on typing in blender fast after open up the panel. I was using a flash player in firefox and have just closed the program blender. I immediatelly opened up the dash-panel and typed in blender(for reopening). The crash happends during typing.
