I share the same problem: I'm trying to disable window shadows for performance reasons as unity turns out a bit slow on my Neo II K325 but failed. You can change it by editing the theme file eg /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml Also, if you use a theme which doesn't explicitly set shadow properties, the settings in the compiz decor plugin will take effect. I've the same bug, but using gtk-window-decorator don't change anything.
