You can also export them into an interchange format. Details vary between
different versions.

I have not looked at Answers in a long time. Last time I looked I was not
impressed. They offered many variations on the question typed and wanted
me to figure out which one was my question. Sometimes none of the choices
were right. I will have to take another look.

Answers.com has been doing this for a couple of years. I don't know the
details, but they often give context for the answer.

When switching between folders in Windows Mail it always takes me to the
most recent message in the next folder instead of the last message I was

[CGUYS] Search operators [was: those pesky browsers!]

2009-03-11 Thread David K Watson

The page

documents a lot of advanced Google search operators besides
the usual " ", OR, -, and the aforementioned site: . For example,
you can use + to search for something exactly as written, * for
wildcards,

inurl: to search for occurrences only in the url, intext: to search
for occurrences only in the text of the page, and link: to restrict
the search to pages which link to the given site.

Is there a way to have google search only specific sites, like
search:imdb

watchmen ?

Actually, I think it would go something like:

watchmen site imdb.com
Put a colog after "site" watchmen site:imdb.com

If you are running XP the files are found under C:\ Documents and
Settings\\Favorites. Copy the folder to a USB thumb drive or whatever
media suits your fancy. Next (no matter what Windows OS you are running) open
IE and use keystrokes " F" then "I" and follow the prompts to import the
files from whatever media you saved it to.

Favorites isn't a file, it's a folder. Look for it under your user folder (same
place as My Documents). Just transfer its contents to the Favorites folder on
your new system.

I'd probably switch to chrome or safari 4 if I could just get some plug ins

Is there a way to have google search only specific sites, like search:imdb

This works in Yahoo! and Google search engines, and some others:

watchmen site:http://www.imdb.com

Format is:

[search term] site:[full URL] <-- no space after "site:"

Re: [CGUYS] those pesky browsers!

2009-03-11 Thread mike
That only works in some cases.

Usually what happens is the first result is not the result of a full site
search had you searched ON the site, but one of the results if you had
searched on the site. I need the whole set of results, not just one that
comes back of hundreds etc.

I notice it works on things like IMDB.com because there usually is only one
result, and for the most part if you put in an actors name or movie title
the first or second result is IMDB anyway.

I have in my plug ins drop down: google, yahoo, creative commons, isohunt,

I use half of these most every day, the others probably once a week or more.

Just in case the original poster misses your note: I believe that his "Why
not?" was referring to the photo being shot at an angle. I don't think he was

Re: [CGUYS] Relinquishing copyright on Wikipedia photo

2009-03-11 Thread Rev. Stewart Marshall

It is even worse when your work is used against you.

As many of you know I am a minister. I happen to be in a minister
that seems divided on Conservative and Liberal lines.

I happen to administrate and moderate a listserv (email discussion
group) that is considered liberal.

A number of years ago before one of our national meetings, a booklet
came out publishing a lot of our email correspondence and trying to
paint us a radical pinko church people.

Legally the person who published these emails was not a member of the
listserv and had gotten them by surreptitious means.

Many of us were upset as this individual had broken copyright laws
and considered it OK.

My understanding is that if you publish anything you automatically
have a copyright on it, unless you release it. But in these days of
digital media it is a mess once that copyright has been breached.

We pay money for a license to use certain copyrighted music in our
church. We also sometimes have to pay per song to another company
when the song we want to use is not covered. We could ignore all
this and do what we want, but then we would not be legal.

Why not? All my own photos are the same. It's just a shot of a public spot.

There is contact info for the owner, so we could contact him. I've never seen
this before; usually we only count any published material before 1923 as public
