Re: [CGUYS] Hp Hulk Monitor
Careful swapping will narrow the problem down. If he disconnects the cable at the back of the monitor and puts another monitor right there, and if it looks good, then it's a bad monitor. If it's still green, it may be the video card. Or his video control panel (the Nvidia control panel allows you to adjust each color separately; people with kids might find their colors way off). Re: [CGUYS] Hp Hulk Monitor
By swapping monitors with one you know works, you will then be able to tell if the problem is the monitor or something else. If the monitor works fine it is the monitor problem. If you still have the problem it is something else like the cable or video card. Judy Cosler wrote: so, how does swapping monitors help if it's a bad cable or video card??? Re: [CGUYS] need help with wifi problem in a large art center
Tom, Very interesting suggestions. I will forward your suggestions to the wifi contractor who has not yet had a chance to come to our site to check out the problems. Would the interference just affect the connection without affecting the signal strength? We do have some welders in the building, kilns, and lots of microwaves. Because this is an intermittent problem it might be impossible to figure out what is happening. Next time my Macbook hangs I will see if anyone else is having any problems and then check out the welders. An access point which slows to the slowest connected device would be terrible. We do have one artist with a very old mac laptop which only gets a connection in a few locations. Of course, one artist called me today to see if she could connect with an old win98 machine. I told her that since she couldn't even use a usb modem on that machine that she should think about a new computer instead. Jul 15, 2009, at 7:48 PM, t.piwowar wrote: On Jul 14, 2009, at 9:08 PM, cindy brandt wrote: Am I wrong in assuming that the signal strength indicates that we are getting the signal everywhere but the response time and the lengthy hanging is another issue altogether? I know that some of the problems with response time might be explained by one artist uploading a large photo. Even on my Fios at home I sometimes have a slow response time when I am the only user. But I have used many wifi networks in hotels and elsewhere and don't ever remember having this hanging problem which is only corrected by turning off and on the wireless on my computer. Since you are showing good signal strength I would put that possibility aside and first look for external factors that can disrupt the operation of your network. Survey the site looking for sources of interference: a rogue access point, a microwave oven, large electrical equipment, an artist using an arc welder, etc. Another thing to look at is the capability of your access points to handle different speeds. Some access points will drop down to the speed of the slowest connected device. On such a network, just one person connecting at the old 10MBPS speed would slow everybody down to 10MBPS. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http:// www.cguys.org/ ** * * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

I had copied part of it just to be able to do a google search on it. I did find some disturbing accounts of repeated hacking attempts (http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=221354.0). This is all over my head, I will leave it to my server. But I am wondering if I have downloaded anything to my computers. I ran Mcafee virtual technician to see if there was anything on my Vista PC which found nothing. I don't know to do to see if it has affected my Macs. Any suggestions? Re: [CGUYS] Switching, and why
From:t.piwowar t...@tjpa.com Do I get you right, you are saying that there is nowhere for Windows to go but down? An increasing number of people switching from PCs to Macs doesn't necessarily mean that Microsoft market share will decrease in the same proportion when you consider that many Mac users also use Windows in a virtual environment or dual boot. However the dual boot and virtualization may also be with Linux or Unix, and MS share will go down, especially if they don't improve their quality control. There are enough computer users on all platforms that there's plenty of customers for all--both hardware and software.
