Re: [CGUYS] Building Your Own TIVO
I think this topic is wandering now and I'm getting confused with several different people talking about different systems.? Anyway, if you've been watching the news from CES, it looks like several manufacturers are showing wireless HDMI, and I don't think any of it requires gigabit. But details are sparse. I swear I read a story yesterday about HDMI over 802G, but I can't find it right now. Having one main TV would really simplify life around here. But between the office, the living room, and the bedroom, I could really use a way to move material around. Maybe just by DVD. My HD5000 card was the only item on which I overspent. I paid $100 new online for it and could have paid half that on eBay. If I were to set up a gigabit network in my house I could stream the video to anywhere. The gigabit is a must for the HiDef stuff. As it is I just watch TV on my one TV and am quite content with that. * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? Re: [CGUYS] Building Your Own TIVO
Yes, but so does this device featured in the NY Times today: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/business/06novel.html At $200 (street) it would probably be cheaper than trying to upgrade that old computer in the closet, not to mention the hassle of trying to get Linux working yourself. Probably big power savings over a computer too. However, it does not appear to currently be a PVR, but it does offer Schedule recording so I wonder if it's possible? http://www.neurostechnology.com/neuros-osd-specifications Using the OSD for daily video recording demands no special technical background, and no PC is required. Setup is easy: Plug a U.S.B. hard drive or other memory device into one side of this lightweight unit, and plug the TV and, for example, the DVD player into the other side. I think I ended up spending around $300. I bought a lot of stuff on eBay and got great deals such as the case cost me nothing after rebates from NewEgg. I think the hard drive was a left over from a previous machine. on Sun, 6 Jan 2008, Site Guy wrote: What is the cost so far? * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? Yes, but so does this device featured in the NY Times today: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/business/06novel.html At $200 (street) Wow. This looks very interesting. But trying to figure out what they really are offering is like reading tea leaves. Here's what I've got working. Note that for recording less than HDTV, you can get by with way less hardware in terms of CPU and video card. So do you have to watch this material through the 6200? Or the HD5000? Or is it easy to watch it all over the house?
