Who was it who disputed that MS would find ways to force us to purchase
Vista?

We had a similar problem last week with a new notebook running Vista
[couldn't connect to modem/Internet]. After updating the firmware on the
modem, Vista found the modem and connected to the Internet, and has
worked fine since then.

Unfortunately, the notebook running Windows XP stopped communicating
with the modem after the firmware update. This only adds one problem on
top of another. :-P

If you are using a router try connecting directly to the modem. If
that works, you know it is a router issue. I spent many hours trying
to solve a similar situation. DNS lookup didn't work for the iMac
connected directly to the router, but worked flawlessly for the
ibooks connected by wireless. Switching port usually got things
working for a bit, but it was a firmware update that solved it. I was
a Dlink router.

Good luck. Update the firmware anyway. You can find the software on the
website for the modem manufacturer. Your ISP may also have the software.

Thank you. I did just that. Connected one computer directly to the
modem and it worked fine.
Then I spoke with a technician and he guided me. I went to the three
computers and entered the IP of the router

as primary and then a second IP he gave me as secundary.

It is working fine now.

Clearly I continue to be unable to access the web
sites. Bit not all. For instance, I can access Google, I can access
 Amazon,
but of the others I have in my Favorite Files I can´t. I get that nasty
