Bonjour,

constructeurs...

For those who don't read Linux Weekly News. Apparently Lucent quietly
released
Linux binary-only driver for PCI LT modem (that is internal modem in
most new
Toshibas). Go get it at http://www.linmodems.org/linx565a.zip. Includes
minimal install information. Haven't seen any officil
information/documentation on it, it's not even mentioned on linmodems
page
yet. It says it is compiled for linux 2.2.12-20 (I guess Redhat 6.1).
Works on
my 4030CDT with Redha 6.0 + updates, custom compiled kernel 2.2.12. This
message is sent out through the builtin modem !

Installs as /dev/ttyS14 (and creates link /dev/modem). Doesn't modify
/etc/modules.conf, so I'm not sure it will load on restart. This is what
it
reports in /var/log messages on load:

Dec 4 22:06:20 sara kernel: Lucent PCI Modem driver version 4.27.5.65
with
MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT SHARE_IRQ enabled
Dec 4 22:06:20 sara kernel: ttyS14 at 0x1c00 (irq = 4) is a Lucent

Couple problems:

It dropped the line once already on connection to my ISP where 3com
PCMCIA
modem is always stable. Makes the same noises as the windows driver, so
it
will possibly have similar qualities to it - generally I found 3com
modem much
more reliable than LT modem under windows.

Doesn't work with kppp for me. Hangs up immediately after starting pppd.
This
is what it says in the log:

Dec 4 22:16:23 sara pppd[821]: pppd 2.3.7 started by root, uid 0
Dec 4 22:16:23 sara kernel: bug: kernel timer added twice at c82f5d19.
Dec 4 22:16:23 sara kernel: bug: kernel timer added twice at c82f5d19.
Dec 4 22:16:38 sara pppd[821]: Terminating on signal 15.
Dec 4 22:16:38 sara pppd[821]: Exit.

But works with RedHat control panel, or plain pppd commandline.

Yet, I didn't expect this to happen so soon. Give it a try. I'm not
selling my
PCMCIA modem yet - this is a binary only driver, so it will likely break
with
kernel updates, from a brief test I can see it's got it's share of bugs
and I
don't see any official support or even release statement around.
