I've always used "lines of four go forward and back" for most 4x4 dances. Hi, Seth and all... Two points: 1. I'm aware that a lot of folks use "long lines" as shorthand for "long lines forward and back." It bugs me, but that's probably just my age and eccentricity. But I humbly submit that in a 4x4, where there are fewer conventions - things taken for granted - than in a longways, it's helpful to spell out as much as possible. 2. Do you really mean "long lines forward and back," not "forward and back up and down the hall"? The former call is so unusual in 4x4s (in fact, I don't think I've encountered it before) that I think it merits a note below the description. Good dance I think the second half of the dance can be better described as follows B1 Balance circle of 4 (4) Petronella finish taking left hands in a wavy line of 2 with person you swung. (4) (Tell dancers to think of their group of 8 as a racetrack or paper clip of 8 everyone facing CCW) Balance the line of 2 (4) Walk forward 2 places in the racetrack, looping left at the ends, take left hands with shadow (4) B2 Balance with shadow (4) Walk forward 2 places in racetrack Those in front of their partner turn back over right shoulder to swing partner, end facing in original direction (8) ___ Contra Callers mailing list -- contracallers@lists.sharedweight.net To unsubscribe send an email to contracallers-le...@lists.sharedweight.net
