[Cooker] Kernel raid

1999-09-27 Thread Eugenio Diaz

What is going on with the kernel releases. First a
package named "kernel-2.2.13-12mdk" appears on the
mirrors that solved the raid problem I had (with a
changelog that said the raid path was added), so far
cool. But the next day a package named
"kernel-2.2.13-11mdk" appears which guess what? have
the same changelog but no raid support :-( ...
... Anyway, there is something wrong with the cooker
building environment since I have noticed several
anomalies:

1. packages appear with a new date stamp, new
changelogs (and by this I suppose the package is
different) but with the same patchlevel as the
previous package. I have examined some of these cases,
and indeed there was achange in the package, but no
change in version designation.

2. packages appear with a certain patchlevel
designation, and then a newer package follows with a
lower patchlevel (ex. - the kernel case I just
mentioned)

Is this caused by human error? Because if not, the
there are bugs in the building environment. These may
seem like small glitches, but this causes havoc on
automatically upgraded systems (Yes, I do
automatically upgrade my system to the cooker mirror,
is this crazy or brave?); and at the least it renders
the use package version designation useless.

I know I may look like a whiner with my long posts,
but I just want to put my grain of salt to build
better distros for everyone.

Thanks,

Well, why not ban them in /etc/mail/access?

Because we can't - they're always originating from different IPs, usually
trial accounts of PSI.net and AOL.

psi.net says they're aware of the problem, but can't fix it because
they're connecting to different SMTP servers (they have configured their
own ones to reject mails sent to more than 10 people at once), and they
don't want to add firewalls preventing to connect anywhere. :/

[Cooker] Anything new on this?

1999-09-27 Thread Rick Collette

I dunno if anyone got a chance to look, but I did some poking:

1) dumpkeys not found
this is not in mdkinst/usr/bin or sbin.. ? it should be, yeah?

2) kernel (during bootloader install) not found
No idea why this is happening..

Re: [Cooker] making a legal case (SPAM)

1999-09-27 Thread Mandrake Bugs

The E*tractor Pro web-site is almost anal with repeatedly using the word
OPT-IN in their wording, as well as having a pseudo-disclaimer
'discouraging' people from using their software to SPAM.

Of course, this is bogus - after all, why would you need to harvest
addresses in bulk for an opt-in system - I think a good legal case can be
made by everyone involved (including ISPs involved) against the producers of
Extractor Pro for misleading advertising (possibly), but definitely for
fraudulent advertising.

In the meantime, our list is slowly starting to be overrun by these moron
spammers.

I do agree that it sounds like a good idea to use a filter and to remove
anything that has E*tractor Pro in the body text - add filterable words as
needed.

[Cooker] The latest gnome-update

1999-09-27 Thread Kai Nielsen

Hi!

Is it just me or is the latest GNOME-update still incomplete on all
the mirrors?

E.g. it's mc-4.5.39-1mdk.i586.rpm but gmc-4.5.38-4mdk.i586.rpm,
control-center-devel-1.0.40-1mdk.i586.rpm but
control-center-1.0.6-1mdk.i586.rpm
and gnome-core probably should also be updated for gnome-libs-1.0.40?

just wondering,
   Kai.
