Not really works as before... just the pop up window in the upper corner

The 5464 is the laguna acclerator, sounds like 3.3.5 has better model

[Cooker] Sond config. Problem

1999-10-04 Thread Sergio Korlowsky

Finnaly I got cooker latest mirror image to Install...
everyday it's looking better... nice work!

I got a few errors, first at installation time
complains about something missing

package rhs-hwdiag at line xx
does not exists...
midgard-php at line 3039 bla.. bla...

When trying to configure sound it also complains about:
sndconfig: error in loading shared libraries: libnewt.so.0.40: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

My video card is now 'detected' as cirrus laguna svga... etc etc,
when before it was detected as Cirrus GD-5464 which it is.

When you just start the desktop for the first time takes a long time
to create icons and everything else... (might be related to detecting my
video card wrongly)

I run Xconfigurator again and the same happens, also noticed the small
pop up window
asking if you want to start automaticly it display on the upper left
corner, when it used
to be in the center of the screen...

So, it's working... ahh BTW you still need to #comment out the ppp (4)
lines in
conf.modules for pppd to work.

also noticed the post-installation pop up window asking if you want to
re-configure
my realtek-card and my ide-cdrom and cdr. 'which I did!'

[Cooker] 3c59x.o behaves _strange_ in bootnet.img

1999-10-04 Thread Niklas Paulsson

Hi,

Having done some more debugging lateley this is what I have found some
_really_ strange 3c59x behavior when using bootnet.img from cooker
(dated 09-30, downloaded from ftp.sunet.se).

First a bit of background on what I'm doing and why. We currently have
77 pc's available to students in our computer labs, some of them run
only linux, some of them run only windows, and most of them are
dualbooted linux/windows. When installing i use kickstarted
mandrake+minor extensions of our own.

The only piece of hardware that is more-or-less identical on all our
machines is the network card, some kind of 3c905B, and hence I am quite
intrested in having a working 3c59x module on the bootnet.img diskette.

The problems seems to be related to some strange kind of bios/nic-model
combination.

The most problems is on our new 466MHz machines. Then have an intel bx2
mobo and a 3c905b-mba network card. On thoose machines, it is
_impossible_ to get dhcp working after a warm reset, after a cold reset
it works most of the times, after hitting retry 1-7 (or sometimes more)
times.

When it's not working and I'm running a snoop/tcpdumd session I can
clearly see how the client sits silent, doesn't send any dhcp requests
at all during the time the "Sending DHCP request" dialog is chown, and
ones the dialog "No dhcp replies recieved" pops up, some 5 dhcprequest
packets are sent at once, which all gets answered by the dhcp server, no
dhcpack replies from the client.

But after 1-7 retries it suddenly works, don't ask me why .

On our oldest machines (p133's) the network card isn't found at all
after a warm reset, I can't even manally specify that it's a 3c905 card.
After a cold reset everything works like a charm on thoose machines.

On all other modells, all is fine, probing and dhcp.

Maybe this is out of the scope of the cooker mailing-list, feel free to
flame me. But since redhat-6.1's bootnet disk works just fine on all our
computers I think the bug is to be found in the mandrake bootnet.img
config.

Since I can kickstart all of our machines, I don't consider this to be a
major bug for us, it's just damm irritating having to press retry an
unknown number of times.

BTW, I also uploaded Glimpse and agrep packages, I don't know whether we

While we are at it, they use the new directory scheme (the FHS2-packages
made for Red Hat 5.X and 6.X by the KDE Packaging Team), i.e. config-files
in /etc, binaries in /usr/bin, libs in /usr/lib, includes in
/usr/include/kde and everything else in /usr/share/kde

IMHO that's really nice and we should adopt it for Mandrake.
I've slightly modified the RPMs for RH, but not yet fully integrated all
Mandrake modifications.

We should switch, really, they're much nicer than RH's packages, well
except the new "kdelibs/kdelibs-devel" split, I'll try to integrate that
also.

Peter

PS: the patch in kdebase (to reinstall the desktop icons if they've been
removed) is an abomination! it should die, painfully ;-)

[Cooker] Panoramix - URGENT

1999-10-04 Thread allxsan

I have an urgent question, the boot img runs the old instalation and the readme
file says nothing about Panoramix !!!
On Mandrake website there is no info about this and I don't want trash some
other 700 MB CD just for trying.
The Panoramix boot img is gi_xxx ?

At this time the image size is too large for standard CD's

Here is the same. Downloaded yesterday :-(

Anyway I think that the hdlist can be generated with genhdlist.
Every time I go to ftp.sunet.se the hdlist is new... 11MB !!!
The third time I have tried to interrupt the transfer with ctrl-c.
genhdlist /mirror/cooker and run fmirror again
The hdlist is now the same on ftp.sunet.se.

I got one rhs-hwdiag and two midgard errors. The installation still works.

I have an urgent question, the boot img runs the old instalation and the readme
file says nothing about Panoramix !!!
On Mandrake website there is no info about this and I don't want trash other
700 MB CD just for trying.

I'm no expert, but I'll gladly take a try at it. I'll keep you
informed of my findings.

I think it may be related to gnome-libs, as there's no change when
using WindowMaker.

 > But whats this about drag and drop, how to reproduce?

Haven't tried it on the new user, but with the pre-existing ones,
dragging the icons around doesn't move them to the new
location. Dragging a panel launcher to the desktop doesnt create a
link. I've also updated ORBit using the cooker rpms, so the problem
may be there.

reapplied the patches.

Could be worse :) Integration with gnome isn't too much of a problem, I
just need to shift+Right click instead of a single right click to get

[Cooker] Bug in Panoramix

1999-10-04 Thread Olivier DUGEON - FT.CNET/BD/DAC/ARP

Hi,

Two bugs in Panoramix,

1/ I try install Mdk with panoramix and fall into a bug. My serial mouse
wasn't detected and it's not possible to use DiskDrake without a mouse
:-(

Message from kernel at boot up is : detected PS/2 mouse (there isn't a
PS/2 port :-\
/usr/bin/perl-install/mouse.pm detect no mouse and complain about this
If i run manually (from F2 console) /usr/bin/perl-install/mouse.pm, no
error messages were printed, but nothing happen. No /dev/mouse create.

Selected the right mouse and port from the panoramix install, doesn't
re-initialize X, and thus, there is no mouse after.

X complain about /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/server/xmodmap and xkbd not found...
Effectively the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/server/ directory doesn't exist...

2/ When you use the network install options for panoramix, the first
stage install don't let you choice your keyboard. It's difficult to
write the path or other information like IP adresses with a french
keyboard configured in US keyboard.

I think panoramix must start with the normal first stage install from
Helios and let the user choose keyboard, lang and mouse and then start
with the graphical install.
