[Cooker] More on Panoramix
Still a no go... four attempts last night... I pass the second stage ok, and keeps going ok just after I finish selecting the packages to install just quits with a signal 11... This was happening with Gi_hd.img 'panoramix-install' Then tried with boot.img and everything goes well until it comes to install the boot-loader... it fails time after time... Why it can't write the boot-loader? So I end up with a 'LI' at boot time... gg Also the same problems with Xfree-3.3.5? It detects the video card ok, but there's no login gui, and the pop up window that asks you if you want to start X everytime.. etc bla bla.. keeps showing in the upper left portion of the screen... when it is supposed to be in the center of the screen (?) I fixed the fuzztime mistake ... so I got a fresh image... what is wrong? If I install from the CD mdk-6.0 I don't have the most minimal error. With the new installation always fails to detect my NIC it's a realteck 8029... never had any trouble with previous releases. ';-( Sergio Korlowsky
Re: [Cooker] More on Panoramix
We have to remember thats what we are here for. To test this thing out so that it can become the next distro. We submit the bug reports and the mandrake team figures out the problems. Although I have had more or less this these same problems for quite a few days now. Every since they merged the mandrake 6.1 packages with cooker. [Cooker] hdlist
Something wrong with hdlist. I have just downloaded the locales and Mesa, usually I stop fmirror with ctrl-c, run genhdlist, re-run fmirror. fmirror delete the partial file in.hdlist and reports that the mirroring is finished. Now fmirror reports new hdlist size. Bye Alessandro

[Cooker] Panoramix install work-around
I managed to install with Panoramix by NOT activating the "Go" button in "Choose packages to install" after my selections. I used the "Install system" in the menu and it proceeded. I am having problems with bootdisk and lilo, but will retry with new download tonight.

[Cooker] gi_hd fails here too :)
Good news, i just made an gi_hd install fail. That's good news as i'm now able to reproduce it, and hopefully, fix it!! Thanks a lot to all of way for your feedback on this bug. I also added some sort of small ls when the hd `does not appear to contain a Linux Mandrake installation tree'. Now the first three entries in the directory will be shown... cu Pixel. [Cooker] New panoramix install problems
1) Actually the new printer detection worked good for me. 2) when it got to my video card the install recognized it but didn't set up xf86config correctly. After I booted into the system I ran Xconfigurator and it fixed the problem for me. 3) xserver isn't set up correctly. It still posts the messages in the upper left hand corner of the screen during testing the install. Also if it is set up to goto init 5 on boot xdm, kdm, and gdm refuse to start at all. To fix this change the last line of /etc/inittab to read x:5:respawn:kdm -nodaemon after I did this kdm came right up no problems. Maybe the script that it was pointing to /etc/X11/prefdm isn't working correctly. 4) One last thing after failing to install the xserver correctly it also failed to install the bootloader. Not to big a deal at least it made a boot disk for me. 5) It doesn't have a problem identifying my mouse anymore. Thanks Pixel. I was getting it to work without the mouse but the mouse does help make things go faster with panoramix. -- ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Holiness unto the Lord, He must increase, but I must decrease Brook Humphrey Owner, Mobile PC Medic webmaster, www.thelinuxstop.com webmaster, www.webmedic.net
