Re: [Cooker] Evolution Pilot Conduits

2001-11-23 Thread Mark Logan

I did a little search and found the gpilotd-conduit-capplet and
gpilotd-control-applet in 2 places - both there since Nov 6th which was
probably when I upgraded to the new control center. Anyway, they were
in:

/usr/share/gnome/apps/Settings/Peripherals
and
/usr/share/control-center/Peripherals/

By copying them to:
/usr/share/control-center/capplets/Advanced/

they now show up in control-center and seem to work. I can't guarantee
that because I don't have my pilot cradle with me today. I'll try on
Monday to do the 'sync' and see what happens.

Thanks,
Mark

Remove source for 8.1, add source for cooker and do urpmi --auto-select.
Or download cooker and install :-)

Yes, urpmi/rpmdrake still have problems with resolving dependencies,
specifically when RPM obsoletes another RPM. (at the very least). You
have to manually check any package where it reports problem and possibly
manually install missing parts. And after that you may want to check
that no "rest over"s remained :-)

In any case, you attempted not "update to cooker" but update of a single
application to version from cooker. That was always questionable.

[Cooker] MandrakeUpdate error-message dialog's size in Mandrake 8.1

2001-11-23 Thread mika . laitio

I was using MandrakeUpdate 8.1 and got some really long error-message
complaining about failed installation due to library conflicts.
The error-dialog was not able to handle this message correctly, because it
made the dialog bigger than my screen-height is.

 > I was not able to see OK/(Cancel) buttons on the dialog and was
forced to close the dialog from the top-right.

How about making dialog always relatively small and using scroll-bars in
situations where message-text length is bigger than the size
available in the dialog?

After closing the error-dialog from the top-right, MandrakeUpdate seemed to
go somekind infinite loop,
it said that it was installing packages, but there didn't came any details
from the packages it was installing...
I killed MandrakeUpdate, but now it will hang whenever I try to open it.
(Same seems to happen for GnoRPM and
rpm from command-line, if I try to use it for something)

Just an opinion - I prefer ReiserFS for large file systems - I am using
ReiserFS for my 22.5 GB /home partition. Reiser performs better.
 However I am using Ext3 for all my other partitions it is more stable
(if that is possible) and more flexible in my opinion. I definately
would not try to use Reiser yet with NFS or with a /boot partition. No
one filesystem is the be all and end all, thats why its nice to be able
to choose. Both Reiser and ext3 make FAT file systems look primitive by
comparison.

I did happen to take 'em down earlier for a little 'maintenance'. In
case you are wondering why fr2.rpmfind nearly exploded.
But the description only mentioned http, that is why I asked. TUX
offers high availability and speed for ftp as well and I think it
deserves a mention.

Re: [Cooker] permissions on webcams

2001-11-23 Thread Vincent Meyer, MD

Guillaume,

Tried it this evening. The new install image brought up the network
perfectly, and using dhcp was able to get all of it's parameters from my
firewall box just fine. Ran a network install off sunsite.uio.no. Went well
except that it does not appear that the pcmcia stuff was installed!

The installer when it gets to network notices that the install was a network
install, and says that it will use the parameters already set up. That's
fine. Unfortunately, on reboot, there's no network.

Looking a little further, if I go into netconf, none of the ethernet ports
are enabled. If I enable eth0 and put in pcnet_cs for the kernel module, it
will then try to reset the network, but then complans that there is no pcmcia
in /etc/rc.d/init.d.

I'll keep playing with it. I think if I boot to windows, get the PCMCIA
stuff, re-boot to linux and install it with rpm i'll be closer.

V.

I had the same problem with diskdrake today.I commented out the following
lines in '/usr/lib/libDrakX/any.pm' and it works (94-99):

#$automatic = 0 if arch() =~ /ppc/; #- no auto for PPC yet
#if (grep { $_->{device} =~ /^sd/ } @$hds) && (grep { $_->{device} =~
/^hd/ } @$hds) {
#   $automatic = $semi_auto = 0;
#- full expert questions when there is 2 kind of disks
#- it would need a semi_auto asking on which drive the bios boots...
# }

Since I have IDE on an AMD, it shouldn't cause a problem.

I've no idea why, but here's what happened...

Expert upgrade from hd.img (rsync'd from ftp.sunet.se).
segmentation fault: seems like memory is missing as the install crashes.
# bug

Expert install and Recommended upgrade seem to work OK.

don't think so

that's because Alan Cox was feeding Linus with patches to finish 2.4.15 ,
and a sort of abandoned the -ac series
the last one is still 2.4.13-ac8

but i think we should expect soon 2.4.15-ac and then 2.4.15-mdk

OK it worked with gnome-print. Add it to reqs or mention about
print-preview in documentation.

It should be noted that 2.5.0 is identical to 2.4.15.

which means you could jump to 2.5 right now :) Although the 2.4 series
