[Cooker] [Bug 2011] [drakxtools] New: Pb of network configuration

 Component: DrakConnect
   Summary: Pb of network configuration

  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical

My computer is part of a LAN. The automatic installation of network does not work:
Everything SEEMS to work, no blocking state, but any information that I gave (at least
10 times) was lost.

The only way to configure my network was to take the informations from other
computer and to put it "by hand" in the configuration files.

During installation of Mandrake 9.1 RC1 the autodetection of the OfficeJet T45 printer
causes an endless cycle (panic-ok-detection-panic-ok-detection- ...)

It is first solved by turnnig off the printer (thus: no autodetection).

After everything is installed, the use of printerdrake from the Control Panel of
Mandrake
("Panneau de contrôle de Mandrake" in french) is impossible: only "Veuillez patienter"
is
shown (Please wait!). The only exit is "Cancel".

But the use of printerdrake from a shell works VERY good: nothing was asked, and the
printer was installed in 2 minutes.

Whilst this works, it was crahsing X when running the Euphoria screen saver
with 2.4.210pre4-6mdk (compiled with gcc 3.2.1), but switching to
2.4.210pre4-6mdk (compiled with gcc 3.2.2) X is now fine.

So the moral of the story is, do your best to ensure that the NVidia driver IS
compiled with the same compiler as the kernel it is being compiled against.

If when choosing idividual packages in flat mode a window pops up and says
"Ialso need to install" or words to that affect, eventually the program will
freeze and the ok or cancel buttons will not work correctly.

This happens randomly as far as the package that gives this problem and so far
I've had it happen on two machines. (both of whom installed beta3 just fine.)

change to f2 etc for additional information I can see on the screen that
clicking the ok or the cancel button is recieved (I'll get messages like OK
clicked or Cancel Clicked one for each time I click if I care to sit there and
click away.) But the window will not go away and at that point even though the
box itself is not hung since I can't get rid of the window I can't proceed with
the instal. I can duplicate this problem over and over and over without fail.

MandrakeLinux-9.1 RC1 Same problem with a twist.

You're getting closer guys but no cigar.

The new release when done as an install on the IBM xSeries platform correctly
identifies the controller no as a 53c1030 but fails to find a driver. If I tell
it I have another SCSI adapter it let me look for a driver and the mptscsi.h is
there and I can pick it. It then tries to load and cannot find the drives. I
think it is because you do not load the mptbase before or with the mptscsi.h
driver. It just cannot see the drives and therefore hangs with no place to load
the system.

On a side note. When the install is done on workstation it hangs after you put
in the users and before you can select you LAN or Video Card or Printer etc.
You have to do a CTL ALT BS and shutdown and do a text boot and correct all
with drakconf. What a pain. It does work fine when doing an Upgrade though.

Beta 3 Has MANY problems.

To be fair for testing, I tried placing Beta 3 on Two different machines.
Both machines hardware fully tested.

Machine 1 (Server)(New) This machine was done as a fresh install.

IBM xSeries 225 Netfinity Server
1-2.4 GB Pentium 4 Processor
1 GB Ram
IBM 40x CD-RW
HP DVD100i DVD +R CD-RW
1-12GB Eide Harddrive
6-36GB UltraSCSI
18" Viewsonic VX800-2 LCD
2-10/100/1000 NIC

First major issue. Like Beta 2 there is no driver for the builtin
Fusion MPT SCSI Adapter (mptscsi.h) If you want to do business with IBM and
IBM servers you have to include this. Even the IBM website gives you the
option of buying the servers without O/S or with Suse 8.1 or RedHat 8.0
who both have the drivers and load and run fine. Mandrake is not listed
because of this. The IBM server goes to SCSI hardrive, or floppy, or CD/DVD.
Even when I placed a 12 GB EIDE drive on the system and loaded beta2 and
beta 3 on the that disk. It will not boot except by floppy.

The is the first problem in Beta 3. During the install I was asked exactly
once if I wanted a boot disk written and then given a choice of floppy or
harddrive. I was never asked again and it does not ask when I reran as an
update. That make it completely unusable. You can't boot the systems
without major effort.

Machine 2 (Workstation) This machine done as a update to 9.0/9.1Beta 2

This machine had 9.0 running on it. It is used to try to convince the state
to approve Linux for use on state machines and to service my clusters.
I did a straight update to 9.1beta2 with little or no problems and everything
worked first time. But, On updating to Beta 3, I no longer get a choice to
logon as root. I must log into an unpriviledged account and su to root.
That stinks. All USB devices specially USB_Storage is no longer functional
even when the modules file is edited. There went my security key and scanner.
Many of my command don't work now. I can't even do an lsof -i. Or, use
Konqueror or Galeon.

Generic 800MB Athlon
512 MB Ram
Panasonic LF-D201 DVD +RW
Liteon 32x CD-RW
Matsui 20x CD
128 MB Flash Drive
18" Cornea CT1700 LCD

Summary after first look. This needs major work. Try standing in front of a
politician and asking for state approvals when he just watched you just mess up
your machine.

Hi,
I noticed that Mandrake Galaxy gtk, while much nicer looking atm than
Mandrake Galaxy KDE, does not seem to be able to change colors, at
least that I've noticed. The issue being that if I'm using KDE, like many of
your users are, I may choose to change the color scheme, which inturn
causes GTK stuff to stick out really badly.

There is a very easy way to solve this, which is why I am reporting this.
libqtpixmap, a derivative of the libpixmap engine employed by most GTK
themes, does color matching with KDE's color settings. Now, I'm not sure
how Galaxy's theme engine works, but I'm assuming importing the code for
this other engine (which is the one used for Geramik, by the way) would be
relatively easy. If, on top of that, you made a little tool to adjust the color
settings from Gnome, Mandrake would be the FIRST distribution (afaik) to
offer both KDE and Gnome users and easy way to keep all major
applications using the same color scheme!

This would dramatically improve Galaxy and fix a major usability "bug"
between KDE and Gnome that has never been solved before right out of
the box. Using a static color palate in GTK apps is alright, but the whole
unified look is only good so long as no one changes the KDE color
scheme. I noted this in my review of Red Hat Linux 8 (at OfB.biz) and
marked down the visual apperance somewhat because of that problem. In
a way unified widgets giving the appearance of all the applications being
the same, will probably confuse users MORE when the color palates won't
change all of the applications. It'll probably result in support headaches, I'd
suspect.

Anyway, libqtpixmap is available for both GTK1 and GTK2. I can't say how
much I think this would be a great thing, and everyone who has ever
wanted to be able to easily adjust GTK color schemes (probably most
Windows migrants) will thank-you for making the change.

Yes, and frankly, they suck.

Vera Sans looks crappy and amateurish compared to verdana. Serif looks
unprofessional compared to Times New Roman. Sans Monospace is the best
of the bunch, but it's unusable for terminals because it's too tall and
thin. People are used to square characters in terminals. I downloaded
the betas in excitement and went straight back to my Microsoft fonts
five minutes later with considerable disappointment...:\

[Cooker] [Bug 1191] [devfsd] /dev entries remain after USB drive has been unplugged

2003-02-20 Thread narfi
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1191

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 06:17 ---
This bug still remains.
Tonight, I plugged a usb card reader in and a /dev/sda entry was created.
After I had unplugged the device, I looked at the logs and saw a message stating
that the device had been unplugged.
However, the /dev/sda entry still remained.
I then tried to run diskdrake, and it obviously believed that the device
formerly connected to /dev/sda still was connected as it asked me:

"I can't read the partition table of device sda, it's too corrupted for me :(
I can try to go on, erasing over bad partitions (ALL DATA will be lost!).
The other solution is to not allow DrakX to modify the partition table.
(the error is unknown partition table format on disk /dev/sda.)

Do you agree to loose all the partitions? [Y/N]"

Thierry, if you don't think this is a mistake in devfsd, where do you think it
is? In the kernel? In hotplug? Work with me, I gave all the information I could
think of in the original bug report: lspci, logs, /proc/bus/usb/devices and a
listing of relevant entries in /dev. What more can I do in order to facilitate
this problem being solved?

I have a CD-RW which I sometimes access using a IDE->USB2.0 case enclosure.
When I connected it, it was recognized and a /dev/ entry was created.
When I disconnected it, the /dev/ entry remained and harddrake2 still displayed
the outdated drive information.
What I expected: The /dev entries to be removed when I disconnected the device.

This is on a fresh cooker install from yesterday. Kernel is 2.4.21.0.pre4.1

Given below: The appropriate lines from the kernel log, /proc/bus/usb/devices,

Summary: unabe to connect with a dsl modem
   Version: 9.1-3mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: P2

when installing mandrake 9.1 fresh, or then as an upgrade to mandrake9.0. I am
unable to get my dsl modem configured. It works great with 9.0

I assumed when doing an upgrade install my settings would have stayed.

Any tips?

---
This was discussed on the KDE list, it seems kdinit is launching two
instances when clicked. The workaround is to drag a marque (box) sround the
icon and then click, pow, single instance and no error message.
---

I have this problem, but hadn't worried about as things still opened. I've
tried the workaround and it doesn't. Workaround, that is. :^)

I was not given the option of doing an update from 9.0.

My system has all of its partitions as software raid 1 partitions.

When the install process got to the partitioning screen it saw all of my partitions,
but none of them were a part of a md? device and none of the mount points were
known.

[Cooker] [Bug 1728] [XFree86] Client apps die

2003-02-20 Thread cwills
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1728

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 05:33 ---
I am also experiencing the same problem (current cooker download) not quite sure
which package "broke" wine. My wine application fails sooner or later (usually
sooner). I have tried running with --debugmsg +relay,+x11 but too much output
without showing anything usefull).

I did try downloading the XFree86 source RPM and did a rebuild on that, no change.

If I run without a window manager (i.e just a startx with an xterm) the app
sometimes runs longer.

If there any other ideas or suggestions for tracing feel free to append here.

Thanks in advance

The XFree86-4.3-0.20030210.1mdk has an annoying
problem: VMware 3.2 and Wine20030115 crash if not instantly, then very
shortly after start on a gui-related operation. With vmware, for ex.,
simply resizing a window (even without a guest OS running/loaded)
causes 98% crash, so does wine.

Checked under KDE 3.1, WindowMaker, IceWM and without display manager at all.
The X drivers checked: vesa, framebuffer, radeon, savage - all on different
computers.
Also checked under Xnest 4.3.0 and with ssh-forwarded connection to XFree 4.2.1
- same result.

The error message sounds like:

XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":0.0"
after 3074 requests (3072 known processed) with 25 events
remaining.

Probable workaround: Setting colordepth to 8 bits seems to help, at least with
vmware, but it's not very practical solution.

When I use drakboot to setup the autologin process to autologin into kde it logs me in
as if i started kde from a console with startx. The problem with this is that the
logout
button only allows the user to logout, not to shutdown and or reboot the machine.
Now.. If i set drakeboot not to autologin and i configure mdkkdm and or normal kdm to
automatically login the user i want to login, the logout button provides all the
options to
the user when it is pressed to either logout, reboot , or shutdown.

I have been running CompuPic from Photodex on previous versions through
2.4.19-24, the latest update for Mandrake 9.0 Now that I have installed 9.1rc1
for testing purposes CompuPic dies on loading with a segmentation fault. Sorry
but there is no core dump nor any other error messages other than the
segmentation fault message.

I have suddenly been getting the same thing with WineX.. and the only way to get
around it is to delete the directory that it says isn't there..

I have Adaptec 1200A IDE RAID (HPT366 is found by the installation program).
Installation 1st stage indicates in a log file, that hptraid is not found.
Installation proceeds, but in a RAID 1 two drives are seen separately (hde and

I've tried different images, but could not achieve a positive result.

I'm not sure I understand this problem. I'm running right now, after installing RC1,
on the Xfree
Gforce 4 driver. Things seem to work fine. I will install the Nvidia driver in a few
minures, but I
wondered if something had broken since the last time I used it. I have a Gforce 4
Ti4200, so
my setup should be comperable.

I have tried all the geforce suggestions given in the mandrake control centre
and the only one that vaguely works is fbdev. All the rest gave varying amounts
of corruption problems. I finally gave up and installed nvidia's own drivers.

Sorry if this is vauge and is seemingly useless informatioin but I feel it's
important to share this in order to illustrate what a user would experience if
9.1 is released with nothing done to avoid the geforce4 problems illustrated in rc1.

The problem of printerdrake not starting out of MCC is already fixed on the Cooker.

For me it looks like an incompatibility between kernel and motherboard chipset
(perhaps bug in kernel or hardware) which leads to the parallel or USB printer
not being recognized.

So please provide us info which kernel package you have exactly installed ("rpm
-qa | grep kernel" and "uname -a") which motherboard chipset do you have, output
of "lspcidrake", output of "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" (for USB printers), which
kernel modules are loaded ("lsmod").

If your printer worked in Mandrake 8.2 or 9.0, install the kernel from that
Mandrake version and try to set up your printer again. Please tell whether this
helps.

mode" to edit the /etc/fstab and resolve the problem, but RAID devices are not
supported on rescue mode.

The latest ethereal hangs after I choose Capture->Start (start capturing)
Capture->Stop. The process is hung (or in a loop or something) tight enough
that the UI does not even refresh.

When capturing, the column widths of all but the rightmost column shrink down to
the width of one or so characters and are not resizable.

[Cooker] Bitstream Vera Fonts Now Available: Is there Anyway to Add them To 9.1?

2003-02-20 Thread Timothy R. Butler
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

The much hyped Vera Font Family ("Gnome Fonts,") high quality (and Free
Software compatible) fonts from Bitstream are now available in beta form!
This means that finally we have access to Bitstream quality fonts that we can
use to replace Helvetica and other old non-scalable fonts to provide a high
quality default D.E. :-)

Is there anyway this can be squeezed into Mandrake 9.1? It'd be cool if 9.1
could premier with the same caliber of fonts as distros like Lindows and
Lycoris which only have 'em since they are licensing proprietary fonts...

[Note: the beta is not redistributable, but final fonts are due out in
March... hopefully before Mandrake 9.1 goes final!]

I recently got a toshiba 2436-s255 laptop. When I put a mandrake CD in
it displays the page asking me " for more options and to install or
upgrade"

If I hit enter my screen will go black and freeze.
I've tried and many different kernel options ... with the 2.4 kernels
nothing works I still get a freeze.

Using a 2.2 kernel allows me to proceed, I can install a base system but then
the 2.4 kernels that come with the system will not start my system up.

I have gotten this system to work with 2.4 kernels, I just had to build it
myself... this is very difficult when you don't have a rescue CD or anything
that can boot the machine.

I had the same problem with Mandrake 9.0. I'll refer you to a post discussing
the problem on the toshiba-linux support list:

https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1962

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 02:30 ---
It did not find my printer on install. It found nothing. If I now go into
MCC and click on hardware and then on printer I get your throbbing little
printer icon and that's all. It just keeps on pulsing/throbbing.

So not I open a terminal, su to root, and type printerdrake. That gives me
the following with a popup telling me it's installing something.

TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff
TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff
TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff
TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff
everything already installed
cupsd (pid 1312) is running...
TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff
TODO: XSetInputFocus if force_focus
TODO: ensure focus stuff

Then I try 'Add New Printer' with all three radio button selected. All it
finds is the Canon on the print server/router/firewall.

So I now do a manual setup and select the HP 948c. Standard Test Page. Didn't
print. Tell it it's a local printer, but I get 'no printer found'.

I take this printer back to a 9.0 machine and it's found properly.

Yes, it didn't find it on install.

No.

No.

I tried all steps, but nothing, nada, zip and zilch.

No.

I installed Mandrake 9.1RC3 to /dev/hdb (this is the only thing on this disk). I
have an installation of SuSE on hda along with windows98. The install program
recognized and configured lilo for the win98 partition, but did not recognize
the linux partitions on hda.

SuSE uses GRUB as the boot loader and it was in place when I installed Mandrake.

I guess this isn't exactly a bug, but I was wondering why, since you have a

need to add an entry, and while I don't mind going into lilo.conf to do so,
that would stump many people. As long as you already have the code, why
not make it work even when you using drakeboot via MCC?

[Cooker] KDE Help Index does not work

2003-02-20 Thread Elliott Martin
Hello,

I submitted an email to the cooker mailing list back in January on this
subject and unfortunately I got no replys, but I feel it's important enough
to bring up again before 9.1 is shipped.

The problem is that KDE has not been configured to allow searching of the help
files by default, and attempting to set it up manually from the KDE control
center on the Help Index applet does not work. I have installed htdig and set
the paths accordingly, but the Build Index button still doesn't seem to do
anything.

Being as Mandrake linux has been refined in numerous places to be easy to use
for first time linux users, I feel that being able to search the help files
in KDE would only help mandrake.

I too have noticed problems with wine since my recent cooker updates. In
my case, I'm using codeweavers plugins and CXOffice in addition to
transgaming winex (All current versions). I've only gotten CXOffice to
run and that's if I manually execute the command via a terminal window.
Desktop icons don't work at all.

A common error shared by WineX and CX plugins is:
wine: lstat /home/john/.transgaming/wineserver-johnhost/socket : No such
file or directory

OR

wine: lstat /home/john/.crossover/wineserver-johnhost/socket : No such
file or directory

However in the case of CXOffice, it uses /tmp to create the necessary socket.

Can you check whether you have enough free disk space with

df -k

It can be that there was not enough space for a temporary file and so it got
incompletely written.

Can you also uninstall all foomatic packages with

rpm -e --nodeps foomatic-db foomatic-filters foomatic-db-engine

Then re-install the packages with

urpmi foomatic-db foomatic-filters foomatic-db-engine

This fixes broken files in the Foomatic database. I have checked on my test box,
there are the same packages and printerdrake sets up a queue for a DeskJet 712C
without problems for me.

Really? what I _thought_ I was buying was the Mandrake PowerPAck. if it came
with Star Office, or joe's Office pack, I thought I was buying whatever was
packed in the powerpack. I was not considering a purchase from Sun, I could
sware it was the MAndrakeStore that charged my credit card. I (personally) do
not need or use crossover, but that is just me. I just clicked around on the
menus and came up with 2 programs that I think most newbies would start by
loging out as user and login as root and run.

Mysql does not start at bootime in runlevel 3 or 5 due to an bug in drakxservices.

Drakxservices sets up a link(K..mysql) in the appropriate runlevels when marked
to be started at boottime, but it is supposed to setup a link (S..mysql) which
is the correct one to have a service started(S means start K means stop) If you
uncheck mysql in drakxservices, then it completely removes the link instead of
setting up the link as K..mysql.
This error has already been in LM 9.0 and still exists in 9.1 RC1 and cooker
version. I guess the error results from the fact, that chkconfig --list returns
mysql as the last element and the perlscript that uses this list for
drakxservices must handle the last entry(mysql) somehow wrong.

The script is pretty long and I'm not familiar with it, so I don't think I would
be able to findout the error within a reasonable time.

Aah that's very interesting. Many thanks for pointing that!

Let's hope it's not a gtk-2 bug, i think an rpmdrake or gtk2-perl
one would be easier for me to fix :/. I hope I can fix it
tomorrow.

Thanks again for the info!

I noticed something about this bug that I think did not get noticed yet (I do
not know if you already know what goes wrong gc, so perhaps this is not of
use):
rpmdrakes _only_ hangs when the dependencies it tries to resolve are not
actually visible in the window.
My dirty guess is that when tries to put these small 'v' symbols to mark that
these packages will also get installed, that something is screwed up when it
cannot put the v on the visible screen, and it ends up in a endless loop.

The work around is: buy a huge monitor and maximize your window. This way, all
rpms will be in view and things will go ok.

[Cooker] How to rebuild nvidia-kernel for rc1: solved

2003-02-20 Thread Francisco
Thanks to Buchan Mine help i did it:

1) Of course you need the nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx src.rpm packages
downloaded from www.nvidia.com.

2) You need also to have installed the kernel-sources rpm from the third cdrom
of Mandrake 9.1 rc1

3) You need to set an environmental variable:

"export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1"

4) Now rpm --rebuild nvidia-kernel.src.rpm
rpm --rebuild nvidia-GLX. src.rpm

5) After the rebuild succes ou will have the rpms on /usr/src/RPM/RPMs/i586

Can you tell the exact steps which you did and how printerdrake behaved? Did it
try to set up a print queue automatically on start-up? Did it show the generated
queue when the main window appeared? Did it really reach the main window? Or did
it crash? Or did you try to set up your print queue with "Add printer"? Did it
detect the printer? Did it suggest the correct printer model? Could you go
through all steps of the wizard? Was the test page correctly printed? And, if
you have a print queue, can you print out of applications?

If you have a print queue, but cannot print, please follow the steps on

Optimally not the Geramik pixmap theme though.

The QtCurve theme is more inline with what the Galaxy theme is all about.
Take a look at this:

I get a working Nvidia kernel RPM, with lots of messages, but no fatal errors.
What error(s) do you get? The only problem I've ever had was the kernel
sources not being installed by default, which was easy to fix. I keep up to
date with cooker, so I have probably rebuilt the Nvidia driver around 8 or 10
times in the past few months. It builds fine, and works fine. Have you looked
at the instructions on the Nvidia web site?

Yes, I think in level 4 you will not get a user list. We have
allow_user_list(0)

O.K., wine is not TOTALLY broken, only mostly. Some applications (other
than notepad, which as someone pointed out is a built-in) do still work.
In the case of Lotus Notes (which worked fine before I applied the the
Cooker updates from the 12-14th of this month), it does not even get far
enough to draw the first frame of the application before dying of an 'XIO'
error. My hardware is a Thinkpad with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500.

I also am running an absolutely up-to-date cooker including today's new
version of X (although I am using my own higher kernel and I compiled wine
myself).

Which resulted in a build error, at leats with the 3123,
strangely i don't get that error anymore with that version.

[Cooker] eroaster-2.1.0-6mdk

2003-02-20 Thread Charles A Edwards
eroaster-2.1.0-6mdk is no longer a viable rpm.
Due to gnome-python and pygtk2 current rpm can no longer be installed
and existing installation will give either python or bonobo errors.
Current src will rebuild and install but program will give bonobo error.

the eroaster 2.2.0 snapshot available from
ftp://eclipt.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/projects/eroaster/snapshots/

will build, install, launch and most importantly work.

The BuildRequires need to be changed to include new gnome-python and
pygtk2 and exclude the old.
Requires needs to include gnome-python-bonobo and to exclude the
old.

This is not limited to that package. It happened to me when selecting tetex-dvi,
and was repeatable.

The box didn't go away, but I was able to select other packages.
At some point (I was closing off, so I may have touched another button at the bottom
of
the window) the popup went away, but the next screen I saw was the task-selection
screen :-( It had forgotten all my package selections

Since Mandrake doesn't have every piece of hardware to test against, it seems a
little silly to ask them a question like that. 9.1 will be shipped with both
acpi and apic disabled because of the number of issues that have been seen with
them.

If you install 9.1 you should have no issues with machines that acpi and apic
don't work on, and isn't that what you want, something that installs and works
without too much work on your part? That is what Mandrake wants to ship. If
you think acpi or apic should work on a machine, try it out.

I'm just not understanding why you are taking up so much time on the mailing
list talking about this. Obviously, the Linux kernel team is working on making
acpi work better with more machines, working around the problems with the
motherboard implementations, but that work may not show up until the 2.6 kernel
(and may not be complete then), and Mandrake isn't going to be able solve it in
the next few weeks.

The window list in windowmaker doesn't add items past the first item. Also
crashes if you add too many items and then try to use one of the items in the
window list.

>From 9.1b3 distro.

Tarball from www.windowmaker.org doesn't have same problem.

No gnome or kde progs running at the time.

The setup programs correctly detected both my ethernet cards and configured them
as eth0 and eth1. But later, when selecting DrakGw to set up sharing, DrakGw
reported that there was only one interface.

Ifconfig reports both eth0 and eth1 still present.

hehe, I've dealt with that already, the whole line is disabled by my
patch. As is basically everything between the first and last statement
of the script.

[markd@pc4 markd]$ strace -f notepad 2>&1 | grep notepad
...
[pid 10974] open("/usr/lib/wine/notepad.exe.so", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) =
6
[pid 10974] open("/usr/lib/wine/notepad.exe.so", O_RDONLY) = 6
...

there's wine's builtin notepad

well then I believe it is also the same the first time you start X-CD-Roast
from the menu, (Kmenu. Application, Archiving, CD Burning, x-cd-roast) and it
gives no clue as to any other way to start xcdroast other than an error box
with an OK button that says "No root configuration or not readable! The
superuser must start and configure X-CD-Roast first, before other users can
use it.
I contend the in the past, a newbie could (and would) log out, login as root

yep that is correct, so the only folks that _sold_ me any software was the
folks I gave money to for the powerpack.

well the change in mdkkdm (not having a text box for user name) is what made
these other programs have a problem. In relatioon to a a new users eyes, they
were not broken until mdkkdm fixed them.

Msec did do what we are talking about (previously), it just depended on the
level of security chosen. as I understand it (and please correct me if I am
mistaken) currently there is no way to type in a user name (root) if it is
not one of the displayed names (and a screenshot might be a good thing for
trolls like myself to get a clearer picture) perhaps this to (the current
complaint as I understand it) is a function of the level of msec security
chosen?

9.1 RC1 installation fails on an Asus P4B533-E motherboard with the
MBFasttrack133 controller. The installer detects that a SCSI interface is in
the machine and asks for which module to load. I choose ataraid.o and the
installer reports that the module was successfully loaded and the SCSI
interface was found.

Then it asks if there are any others. No matter what I choose at this
point... If I say "No," it will report that there are no devices available to
install filesystems. If I say "Yes," it naturally drops me back to the SCSI
module selection screen.

My hard drive is hooked up to this PDC20276 controller. My CDROMs are hooked
up to standard IDE controller apart from the PDC20276. Since this problem
existed in 9.0 (in a much much worse way) I was really looking forward to 9.1
solving this!

Scenario:
- open rpmdrake (install), check a category checkbox, for instance "other window
managers" or "KDE workstation"
- uncheck one of the new checked applications in the subtree or uncheck the
category checkbox if the subtree is deployed

-> freeze

other scenario:
- open rpmdrake (install), check an application to install that needs depencies
- uncheck the application

It seems it only happens with certain categories/lists of packages.
