The QuickCam was under Unknown/Other section with No description listed but listed the pwc module. So when MCC did not list the USB hardware it functioned, but being recognized in 9.1 might not set the module settings properly ... --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This problem was not there in mandrake-9.0 kernels. 1. /etc/fstab has the correct options for mounting it as ext3 /dev/hda5 / ext3 noatime, defaults 1 2 So "df -T /dev/hda5" reports it as ext3 too: FilesystemTypeSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda5 ext33.4G 713M 2.5G 22% / 2. But "dmesg" shows these entries: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem). EXT2-fs warning (device ide0(3,5)): ext2_read_super: mounting ext3 filesystem as ext2 Similarly, "cat /proc/mounts" shows: /dev/root / ext2 rw,noatime 0 0 These mean / is being mounted as ext2, not ext3. This is further confirmed by the lsmod entry: Module Size Used byNot tainted ext3 64704 3 (autoclean) which shows that 3 other ext3 partitions are mounted as ext3 as expected. If / had been mounted as ext3, the "Used by" field would have been 4. Its obvious that the kernel (which has ext2 built-in but modular ext3 support) is preferring ext2 to ext3. This is inspite of the fact that my installation has initrd: lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 25 Mar 26 19:44 /boot/initrd.img -> initrd-2.4.21-0.13mdk.img and /etc/lilo.conf has the correct entry for initrd: image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda5 initrd=/boot/initrd.img Something must be wrong with the way initrd-2.4.21-0.13mdk.img has been built and that is preventing the kernel from loading / as ext3.

[Cooker] 9.1 fresh install
Tho I've been current cooker all along (and consequently already at 9.1 final), I did a fresh install today. Fortunately I saved copies of pertinent adsl/eth0 related configs and a backup of my /home/tom directory, among other stuff. All'n all I was pleasantly surprised with the fresh install (regular, or what use to be 'recommended'). Great job, better than ever. Everything worked, just a coupl'a niggles and a potential real pisser off'r. o I again had to 'urpme alsa-utils' to prevent aplay from suckin on the cpu (100%), and enable sound. Same thing happened after the recent 'upgrade' with 9.1 final CD's. Onboard AC97, snd-via82xx : VIA Technologies|VT82C686 [Apollo Super AC97/Audio]. And I had to run 'aumix' to move the sliders off -0-. Then Kmix was functional, sound was fully restored. o Tho eth0 worked, it spent _many_ seconds during boot being enabled, finally "claiming" an address after tryin it several times. This was soon fixed by moving in the saved copy of /etc/sysconfig/network- scripts/ifcfg-eth0 The only difference between the '9.1 fresh install' file and the saved ifcfg-eth0 file was one line. BOOTPROTO=static from the saved file works, eth0 is just a split second pause during bootup. BOOTPROTO=dhcp, from the 'fresh' install caused the long wait and search. Connection is adsl, dynamic IP, auto DNS. (dsl line -> ATU-R, 'often referred to as a modem' -> pci NIC 'D-Link TX538') o Now for the pisser. I had previously done an upgrade with the d/l 9.1 CD's, mainly to look at the installer. Everything was fine, no problems. I like the new simplicity, look'n feel, and ease. Very fortunately it's my habit to regularly backup my user dir (/tom) to a storage partition, which I did just before I began todays fresh install. During the install I was presented with the options to format partitions other than the preselected '/'. I also chose /boot, to clean out a bunch of obsolete kernels. I was careful to make sure that none of the (many) partitions including /home, were _not_ selected. Still, on first boot, my 'old' /home/tom was wiped out, replaced by the beginning default one. Easily fixed by overwriting with the saved /tom dir. Could'a been a disaster tho. -- Tom Brinkman Corpus Christi, Texas

Nach dem ich den Treiber auf ALSA gestellt hatte, wurde aber die Audigy eingestellt. Damit gings nicht. Man kann aber noch manuell das Richtige (emu10k1) auswählen. It seems the card was configured first with OSS, but I can't say that safely anymore, as I tried to much. After I configured it to use alsa, the audigy was configured. But that did not work. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3185 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-29 00:15 --- I believe that Piero also reported this on bugs.kde.org: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56473 I think this all stems from the same problem and that it's not mdkkdm specific: Qt applications can sometimes not be run remotely. If I ssh into my home machine (which runs Mandrake 9.1) from a win2k machine running exceed or xwin or from a RH 7.2 machine, I cannot run any qt/KDE program remotely -- they all crash and dump core. All plain X and gnome apps work without problems. This bug was because of bug in gcc 3.2 that was used in Mandrake 9.0. But after Mandrake switched to gcc 3.2.2, they didn't recompile libvorbis rpm with new compiler. RE: [Cooker] Anyone running 2.5 beta kernels with current cooker?
First off thanks for everyone's help. I made kind of a newbie mistake. There was an article posted to cooker a few days ago about testing the 2.5 kernel. The article made mention to be sure to install the module init tools. So, I dutifully downloaded and installed them. They were no help! So, I uninstalled them and realized there was a MDK version. Duh!! After installing, I can now insmod all my modules no problem. Now, this is probably something stupidly easy, but how do I get my 2.5 modules to load automatically? None of the modules load on startup and for some reason it's not able to see my FAT partition. Other than that, it seems to be working like a charm. [Cooker] Still issues adjusting volume with SBlive and digital speakers
Hi I am still having problems adjusting volume for my SBlive soundcard with Boston Accoustic Digital speakers (2 speakers) from applications. I can 'temporarily' fix it for xmms by doing the following (suggested earlier): echo 'PCM "Wave" 0' ? /proc/asound/card0/oss_mixer On reboot I have to do this again (or add it to some startup script). Now I can change the volume in xmms. But I still can't adjust the volume in apps like xine, aviplay, etc. Sliding the volume control in any of these apps just doesn't do anything. This is with using alsa as the soundsystem. Is there any way to get the sound with the SBLive so that all apps can adjust the volume? This is fresh installed from cooker late January and since updated everyday for latest files. Tried with alsa that comes with mdk which is now at 0.9.0rc8 (and also downloaded the 0.9.1). Kernel is at 2.4.21-0.13mdk and the following rpm's are installed as well: alsa-utils-0.9.0-0.8rc7mdk libalsa-data-0.9.0-0.14rc7mdk libalsa2-0.9.0-0.14rc7mdk alsamixergui-0.9.0-0.6rc1_2mdk Thanks for any help Serge

By the time we got to the summary where you configure networking, the card has been transformed into a WinModem. I didn't bother configuring networking for this device. When Mandrake re-booted, it wouldn't recognise the card, or go beyond the ide-cs start hde point. I have read all the correspondence I could find on the Mandrake fora about Microdrives. I can see that there is some kind of problem with devfs too, but I don't know whether this is an instance of the same problem, or a separate issue with installation. In earlier releases of RedHat, there was a block- major-33 module you could configure on, but I don't find any reference to this parameter in the expected places (etc/modules.conf). [Cooker] [Bug 1147] [Hardware] pcmcia blocks boot
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1147 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-28 13:57 --- is this one similar to bugs: #945, #1050, #1882, #2237 It looks like this is still the same with 9.1 final as reported on http://margo.student.utwente.nl/simon/ongoing/jade8060.php I have not confirmed this yet. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: Beta 2. Toshiba Portege 7010CT, vanilla. docked. no pcmcia cards inserted. Installation of MD 9.1b2 (or knoppix) is fine. However, on the first boot from hard disk, during the standard startup, at "PCMCIA " the computer locks totally. It requires a hard reboot, then a knoppix reboot to delete /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia so that booting works. (I also tried it with -v. the last thing I see before hard death is "uname -r". the computer is not superfast, so this is painful.)

The exclusion list contains the ID "nobody", but if you turn on debugging/logging and look in the /var/log/samba/log.(host) files, there are messages about authorization failures for valid IDs then running into a further problem because Samba tries to use "nobody" for guest access and can't find the ID. What is the procedure to follow to get some attention to an ignored bug ? i.e. Is there a policy in place when the person assigned to a bug is/has been "absebt without leave". Bob Finch
