re: [Cooker] [Bug 6138] [gnome-session] Unable to start gnome preference daemon
>One more time again, I'm facing this "Gnome n'a pu démarrer le >démon de >préférence. Pour l'instant il sera désactivé et vous n'aurez pas >accès >aux thèmes, sons ... ) -> Gnome was unable to launch gnome >preferences >daemon. >So i don't have theme ( ugly default one for style, color, theme, >nautilus icons ), can't launch some applets ( windows list/systray, >desktop switcher ) because of an OAFIID cryptic error ... I've been seeing this alot lately and I believe it has something to do (in my case, may be similar) with dhcp. In my situation I've configured my machine using zeroconf with my adsl connection (machine doesn't seem to retain the given hostname and still uses the hostname provided by the ISP but that's another issue) which obtains its configuration via dhcp. Now what I have seen is that whenever my lease is renewed and I am issued another IP, anything that is currently running on the desktop is fine whereas anything that is attempted to be ran (any application trying to connect to the X server) fails, even when attempting to run the application as the root user. The typical error message is that the application cannot connect to the X server on the running display. I've even tried running xhost to string up a temporary fix so I can continue to use the machine. In relation to the above bug, I have found that restarting the X server does not resolve the issue, whereas a reboot will. Perhaps even a change of runlevels from 5 to 1 and back may fix it but I have not yet tried. If the X server is restarted, and you log in again, you will get the above messages consistantly. Perhaps there are others that have experienced this but just are not aware of it. :) Anyway, enough from me, I'll go back to lurking now. Deryk

[Cooker] Loading order of modules and assignment of programs to video devices
Is it possible in 9.1 final to firmly specify that v4l devices that are on the system to use precise device names as you can with ethernet devices for example? I've tried setting aliases in modules.conf as I've done for ethernet cards in the past but my bt878 card and Logitech Quickcam Express are consistantly loading (or assigned during boot..not sure which) alternatively when booting (ie first boot, video0 would be tuner, video1 would be cam, then reverse every subsequent reboot). I have not however attempted to duplicate it. It appears to have been introduced with the more recent kde betas (i.e. just before 9.0 release). -- Regards, Deryk Robosson

The lirc_i2c module loads (as well as lirc_dev) but no device ever shows up in /dev running devfs. I looked at the source included in the kernel-source rpm and it says it's registering the device but the compiled module does no such thing. -- Regards, Deryk Robosson Robosson Business Services 22 Flemington Street Albany, WA 6330 ABN: 56 728 377 499 Phone: +61 4 0842 9835 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Cooker] BUG: panel configuration options missing
Problem: Previously, in order to resize, position, or alter a panel, one would right click on the panel and select configure. With the release of the kdebase-3.1-0.beta2.2mdk package this ability has diappeared. Quick Fix: It would seem that the file /usr/share/applnk/Settings/LookNFeel/panel.desktop is not complete as /usr/share/applnk/Settings/LookNFeel/panel_appearance.desktop is. 1) Using menudrake and selecting default KDE menus will restore the proper desktop item. 2) Calling "kcmshell panel" from a prompt will also yield the tools you are after. Solution: Unknown. I would speculate that the contents of the panel.desktop file is not up to par with what needs to be in it. I'll leave that up to those in the know. :) -- Regards, Deryk Robosson Robosson Business Services 22 Flemington Street Albany, WA 6330 ABN: 56 728 377 499 Phone: +61 4 0842 9835 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
