Straw is having a terminal problem which prevents you from using it. Although
you can open the application window just fine. Straw cannot resolve domain
names. (I.e., it cannot turn domain names into IP addresses.)

As a test, I found one website that wasn't using named-virtual-hosting -- namely
www.gnomedesktop.com -- and replaced it's domain name with it's IP address to
see if that would allow Straw to work. And it did. This modification made it
so Straw could pull down it's RSS feed.

(In other words, I changed "http://www.gnomedesktop.com/backend.php"; to
"http://216.120.195.26/backend.php"; and it worked.)

So... having said that, it seems that the problem may be related to the "adns"
package. Or the "python" bindings to "adns". Or Straw's use of those bindings.
 (But that's just a guess.)

As discussed somewhere else yesterday, the problem is for plain text files which
would get no charset which is annoying...
If a japanese guy look at a txt file on your server how will its browser guess
it is iso-8859-15 ?
Maybe the default charset should remain for text/plain but not for text/html,
xml, wml, ...

According to http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/charset.html#h-5.2.2 and
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/core.html#adddefaultcharset when a charset
parameter is specified in the Content-Type HTTP header sent by the server, it
overrides the charset specified in the tag of the HTML document.

Apache shipped with Cooker has the directive AddDefaultCharset set to
"ISO-8859-1" (see commonhttpd.conf). Consequently, all HMTL documents are
considered as ISO-8859-1 documents by conforming web browsers such as Mozilla,
even if they are UTF-8 or Windows-1252 documents according to their tag.

This behavior, though not severe, is a bit irritating because in most case (if
not all) the tag reflects the correct character set for the document.

Therefore, the AddDefaultCharset directive should be set back to its default
value (Off).

The package I have sent 5 month ago was fine.
I think that something went wrong during a build.
Of course, the file libbfd doesn't exist.

And, worst, the RPM cannot be rebuild. It fails on some error.

Maybe it is caused by the glibc, or by gcc.

The announce (in French) about the agreement can be read here ; it was written

A text in English describing the general idea of "software against software

As an author and supporter of free software, and a Mandrake Linux user, I am

Mandrake to free software philosophy.

Hi,

I have several problems with the current galeon version compared to the version
included with Mandrake 9.0 (german version):
- themes do not work at all
- several menus are missing (f.e. the very useful preferences menu)
- there is much less space for the browser itself (with themes that could be
partially solved)
- there seems to be no way to remove the bookmarklets

If you don't want to have galeon to be a showstopper, I'd very much
recommand to switch back to the current stable (1.2.8) version on
http://galeon.sf.net and not use the development version for the coming
9.1 release (I did not find one single advantage of the current development
version compared to old stable one)

Regards,

Reinhard

Mandrake control center and linuxconf work fine using su.
For mandrake control center you can even run it as user and give the root
password then.

There are really few differences between using su or really being root...

This is a problem from the "dm" you use (kdm or gdm or xdm) not from drakxtools.
Could you please tell which one you are using to reaffect the bug to the right
componnent ?

I just typed my login,
then hit the tab key,
then typed my password

This feature disappeared
in 9.1 rc1.
It is slower when logging
often on my latop.
I don't want autologin
because my laptop
could be accessed by everybody.

First, that's not X related but comes from you dm (gdm/kdm/...)
More, you can still login as root in console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) (if you can't I think
that's a security level problem)

Why to you want to login graphically as root while you can use su ? Loging in
grphically as root is quite dangerous because you run a lot of applications just
when you login and if any of the applications is buggy it can break a lot of
things. More, you may want to look for documentation on the internet and if the
program you use has security flaws (that occurs sometimes, especially on big
softs like konqueror or mozilla) people may get control of your computer...
