I didn't have access to it this wednesday, but I had access to it today :)

I'm afraid the problem persists.. 2.4.13-12mdk still reboots if I try to boot
up the system with it..

I'm using the standard rpm from cooker to install it so I can't just remove
some drivers, at least not unless I compile the kernel myself... but
shouldn't it just work "out-of-the-box"??

I've just tried kernel 2.4.12-5mdk today... same problem as 2.4.10-2mdk ..
the machine still reboots after the "Loading Linux" line..

If Mandrake were to develop yet another packaging system which were
incompatible with RPM then one of the major strengths of the distro would die!
One of the reasons that RPMs make mandrake great is that there are so many
different programs available as RPM which work on almost all RPM based
distros (excluding the RPMs which have distro specific dependencies of
course)..

I think it would kill Mandrake if they were to develop a new format! It would
be much better to do what they are doing, improve RPM instead and evolve RPM
while still maintaining a certain backwards compability..

I really think that you have the wrong take on rip-offs .. this is Open
Source, meaning that Red Hat made a great product which MandrakeSoft (which
of course wasn't a reality then) saw and decided that they could make it even
better.. so why reinvent the wheel again when RH has made quite a nice one
for them to improve upon? This is one of the prime reasons for the speed with
which Open Source development is taking place! So don't think of it as YAR
(Yet-Another-Ripoff(tm)), instead think of it as an alternative to RH which
still maintains the things from RH that made it great!

[Cooker] DrakeLogo 1.0-26mdk

2001-10-03 Thread Anders Bruun Olsen

I've tried DrakeLogo and nothing seems to happen when I start it.. it asks
for root password and then nothing more happens.. I've tried starting it from
KDE (Alt-F2) and from a shell were I would guess some debugging info should
show up if something was wrong.. but it doesn't write anything there..

I don't believe the problem lies there.. when I boot in 2.4.8-12mdk there is
no problem, but when I boot in 2.4.8-21mdk (and -18mdk. -19mdk and -20mdk) I
get an error message in /var/log/messages saying it can't allocate 256 IO
ports for CardBus Socket 0 (or if I put the PCMCIA card in the other slot,
socker 1).. so the pcmcia.conf (or whatever it is called) shouldn't be the
problem.. I must admit that I don't really have any idea exactly where the
problem lies.. but I thought I'd just contribute a bit to Mandrake Linux by
reporting a bug and helping with as much information about it as possible
(I've reported it on qa.mandrakesoft.com as well..)

Mine is actually an SMC card, but it identifies as LinkSys EtherFast
PCMPC200 v2.. and uses the tulip_cb driver.. and it doesn't work when I boot
in 2.4.8-20mdk (I _have_ installed kernel-headers-2.4.8-20mdk and
kernel-pcmcia-cs-2.4.8-20mdk)

[Cooker] Problems with PCMCIA in Kernel-2.4.8-19mdk

2001-09-07 Thread Anders Bruun Olsen

Hi there,

I'm new on this list but having found a bug in the newest kernel in cooker I
thought this list would be the best place to tell about it...

I have 2.4.8-12mdk installed which works perfectly with my LinkSys PCMCIA
network card. I also have 2.4.8-19mdk (and have tried 2.4.8-18mdk with the
same result) where my nic doesn't work.. from /var/log/messages when I insert
the card:

Hope someone here can use this info :)
