Re: [Cooker] ReiserFS killed my /var
[Snip] I am using reiserfs since 7.2, including /var. And I never had any problems with it. And we had more than one powerfailure ;). I am so confident with it that windows-user-method I sometimes just click on reset if the system seems to be hanging /windows-user-method Everytime it came up perfectly clear. From my expirience I would say that you loss of /var filesystem was not due to reiserfs but due to something else. But thats just IMHO. Take care, Andre P.S.: Even if you use reiserfs, never underestimate the power of Murphy! (Do backups)!
AW: [Cooker] 2.4 kernel won't mount reiserfs
[snip] I have 7.2 with 2.4.0 and reiserfs and it works just fine. maybe checkout you kernel config. Well.. the way I got to my 2.4 config was to "safe" my old 7.2 original config, then cd to ../linux-2.4.0, make menuconfig and load my old config. Of then again going through all values again to adjust to the things that change/are new in the 2.4 kernel. Thus I believe I am pretty close to my old config. Oh besides... getting the kernel rpm with MandrakeUpdate failed: "...conflicts with kdeaddutils-" ?!?! ... And I am too scared to click on "force update" ;) Cheers, Andre
[Cooker] 2.4 kernel won't mount reiserfs
Hi there, It has been a while since I worked my way through tailoring the kernel to my own needs, mainly because I didnt need to since I am using Mandrake ;). Anyways, I patched the 2.4 kernel with the latest reiserfs patch for 2.4, compiled the kernel with reiserfs. (not as a module) And trying to boot it stops saying "VFS: could not mount root on 03:09" Yes I did "lilo" and yes I did update the lilo to be the latest version (some previous one had problems mouting reiserfs). My /boot is still ext2fs, but all other devices are reiserfs formated. The I tried to make a boot-image with "mkinitrd", was easy.. but... now I am getting the hang after "Loading reiserfs module. ELF: not enough memory to execute...bla" I have been browsing the cooker, and some online sources for my specific problem. But most informations are only concerned with mounting /boot partitions (which works). Any ideas? Take care, Andre
