I have rebuilt and installed both src rpms without problems here.
You probably did not edit your XF86Config-4 file. Read the
documentation on NVIDIA's website...

This is normal, it is only a warning to let you know that some
non-free modules are actually loaded in your kernel...

How a we supose to do this when it is imposibble to extract to a vfat
partition? Trying to copy the content of the iso will resault in a bunch
of errors related to symlinks... I did not have this kind of errors
while extracting the other isos?

[Cooker] Problem with the beta4 isos or tar?

2002-03-05 Thread Baal

Hi,

I just tried to extract the first iso of beta 4 (md5sum is ok) to
/mnt/win_d/Mandrake and encountered problems I had never seen before.
The iso is mounted as a loop device on /mnt/disk and I typed the
following command to copy everything from one place to the other:

# (cd /mnt/disk && tar -cf - .) | (cd /mnt/win_d/Mandrake && tar -xpvf
-)

Files started copying but near the end error messages started to appear
saying:

"tar: ./Mandrake/mdkinst/usr/bin/basename: Cannot create symlink to
`commands': Operation not permitted"

for a lot of files and then:

"tar: ./Mandrake/mdkinst/usr/share/locale/vi: Directory renamed before
its status could be extracted"

for a lot of directories... It seems there is a probleme with the links
on the cd that should not be symlinks.

Maybe there is a problem with tar also because the name of the VERSION
and COPYING files that are in the root of the iso were changed to
lowercase and this is very Weird!

A compressed file with all the errors is available at:
http://www.megaoctet.net/~baal/typescript.txt.bz2

You should check the md5sums of your isos instead of just comparing their size... More
information is available here: http://linuxiso.org/md5sum.html

I am sorry about that, since this was a french issue and since mandrake
is also a french company and since people who can not understand what I
said probably do not need to understand, I did not even think about
it... Consider my post as an empty one with a sig;)

Does it sound better?

[Cooker] xmms freezing the computer...

2002-03-03 Thread Baal

Hi,

When i click on an html link that points to an mp3 file with galeon or
Mozilla my computer immédiatly freezes. This is not only the X server
because after the freeze, it is also impossible to ssh in from another
computer. This makes it very hard to see what happens...

These are the packages involved:
xmms-1.2.6-2mdk
mozilla-0.9.8-6mdk
galeon-1.0.3-4mdk

If someone needs more info just ask ;)

[Cooker] tcl problem...

2002-03-03 Thread Baal

Hi,

I just upgraded the tcl to version tcl-8.3.3-12mdk and this is what
happens when I try to start my eggdrop:

[baal@mydotcom bot]$ eggdrop beo.conf
eggdrop: error while loading shared libraries: libtcl.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
[baal@mydotcom bot]$

Doing this soft link took care of the problem:

[root@mydotcom baal]# ln -s /usr/lib/libtcl8.3.so /usr/lib/libtcl.so

This needs to be fixed...

Have a nice day!

nopentium was probably written there because you performed an upgrade
from a system that already had the option appended to LILO...

I think it would be very important to add this since it affects the
majority of AMD cpus used with the AGP port... The change that
mem=nopentium does is simply telling the kernel to use 4k pages instead
of 4M pages and almost no programs can use 4M pages anyway so the
performance loss is absolutely imperceptible. Many person reported big
stability problems when 8.1 came out and this option can prevent that...

For those interested in knowing if their CPU is affected, you can make
cat /proc/cpuinfo and if the tree following lines are not identical then
your CPU probably has the bug:

cpu family : 6
model : 2
stepping: 2

Baal

[Cooker] $PATH problem?

2002-02-26 Thread Baal

Hi,

When I open gnomecc > Advanced > "Window Manager Selection" and choose
Enlightenment as my Window Manager and press ok, it waits 10 seconds
before sending an error window telling that it timed out and that it
will use the default: sawfish. I added a new entry called E with
/usr/X11R6/bin/enlightenment and then everything worked perfectly...

It happens that I compiled E17 two days ago and installed it to
/usr/local/bin but it segfaults when I try to start so I checked the
default $PATH :

[baal@mydotcom baal]$ echo $PATH
/usr//bin:/bin:/usr/bin::/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/home/baal/bin:/home/baal/bin
 [baal@mydotcom baal]$

Shouldn't /usr/local/bin be placed after /usr/X11R6/bin so people can
compile and install programs without breaking the system? Also, as you
can see /usr/bin and ~/bin both appears two times...

I am not writing this to be helped with E17 or to be told how to modify
my bash settings. This I can do, but many peoples can't do that...

Regards,

Baal
