Do you have the same delay when installing cooker and choosing the ntp

Nice catch about the translation, Jan!

Roger, "Arreter la presse (des CDS)" is a better translation for

But i don't see any drakclub wizard material in there.
Launch drakclub to see what it does. It's not mandatory to be root but
you need root password to set up the urpmi sources otherwise only your
one month free club account is created.
Very handy for newbies who want something graphical and simple.

I think that this is aimed only at the client part. We assume that the
time server is available only in the local network and has the 'at
least 3 external stratums' correctly (manually) set. External servers list
should be dropped. WDYT ?

Ok, i just finished putting ntp client feature in mcc (clock.pl). It's
aimed to sync with a ntp server in local network but can be used for
external ntp servers.

Drakclub is aimed at first to create a one-month-free-trial-account,
adding urpmi sources is one feature amongst others.
I personnaly don't think that it belongs to Packaging :(
Maybe it should be put on the desktop as before.
Ok, i finished discussing with David and it's highly probable that we put it
in 'Mandrake Galaxy Welcome Screen'. For the menu entry, we have to
find a better location.

The binary name is _drakclub_ (specific part for the club account
 + urpmi sources managements).
_drakfw_ is the whole wizard which is not suited to be started from
command line.

Yes this is drakfw which is a concatenation of smaller wizards which
can be reused through menus or from command line (drakmail and
drakclub respectively to setup mail accounts and club accounts/club
urpmi sources)

Yes, reproduced here. Seems to be a mess between UTF8 flag in perl
string and libuser which ends in bad writing of Gecos in /etc/{passwd,shadow}
Workaround is to forbid Non ascii-8 characters in Gecos (just like in
username). Anyway, fix (if i find it) should go to updates (after
release) -> don't want to break other things.

I asked Pixel about the change but as Buchan said it's not mandatory to
begin at 500. You can specify uid manually with userdrake so you have a nice
workaround there.

Wait till libuser(5mdk) hits your mirror :)

[Cooker] Announcement: New userdrake to replace viagra. Check it out!

2003-06-23 Thread Daouda LO

[ As most of mailers are cofigured to filter 'spam' word in subject, i resend this ]

[EMAIL PROTECTED] userdrake2]$ cat RELEASE_NOTES
A new version of userdrake is released. It is completly
rewritten from C to Perl (More precisely Gui is now in perl-Gtk2
and backend is in XS). the XS part relies on libuser.
The new userdrake comes with many features and the Gui is now more
consistent (isn't it?).
Some of the features are:

- Easy way to add/remove users in groups and vice versa
- Dialog box for deleting user's home and user mail spool when removing user
- libuser API (security/consistency when accessing users info files)
- No more /etc/{ptmp,gtmp} nightmares.
- Ability to put Uid and Gid manually when adding user/group
- Change of the primary group of users
- 2 filters for system and normal users (pattern matching)
- Password aging
- Ability to lock user's account
- User's account expiration
...

Missing features:
- LDAP configuration (coming up)

userdrake2 requires libuser1-0.51.7-2mdk.i586.rpm or higher to work properly

Please test and report bug.

[Cooker] Announcement-Spam: New Userdrake to replace Viagra. Check it out!

2003-06-23 Thread Daouda LO

Right. Let me explain the context of the mail i sent after the release
of 9.0. There was a showstopper (app crashing) with drakconf in nl
locale. And the idea was to not release with this kind of big bugs in the
distro. Locale should not prevent using an app as critical as mcc.
Unfortunately, things have not been done in time for mdkkdm but this
is not a critical bug (Users can easily guess the meanings of 'login'
and 'passwd').

Agree, but it would be an additionnal dialog. And you should know that
shorter a wizard is, more often it is used. We didn't want to add
additionnal dialog.

Let say that the aim of drakclub which shares code with drakfirsttime,
is double. First it registers you at Mandrakeclub and second it adds a
source urpmi if you're root and pass through if not.

As levi said, relaunching the drakclub wizard do the trick. An

I hope that RMS isn't listening to this list. His answers to someone
who made the horrible mistake of posting a baby announcement to the
kabuki-west ml - for dinners and get-togethers in San Francisco Bay
area - were terrific.

Subject: Another mcuddy..

Could people please not use this list to announce information of no
particular interest to the people on the list? Hundreds of thousands
of babies are born every day. While the whole phenomenon is menacing,
one of them by itself is not newsworthy. Nor is it a difficult
achievement--even some fish can do it. (Now, if you were a seahorse,
it would be more interesting, since it would be the male that gave
birth.)

Following your example, I might send the list an announcement whenever
a new GNU program is written. That happens less often than babies are
born, it does the world a lot more good, it reflects more conscious
creativity and hard work, and some of the readers might actually find
the information useful. Even so, I think most of the readers would
consider this outside the scope and purpose of the list. Clearly that
goes double for babies.

Of course, we have another place for announcements of new GNU
programs. If some people like to read birth announcements, perhaps you
should set up a suitable list or newsgroup. Perhaps rec.births?
(While you're at it, start rec.deaths for obituaries--they're usually
more interesting to read.)

These birth announcements also spread the myth that having a baby is
something to be proud of, which fuels natalist pressure, which leads
to pollution, extinction of wildlife, poverty, and ultimately mass
starvation.

Perhaps the people who have decided to have no children should start
making proud announcements, so as to set a better example. I could
start. I'm sure everyone on this list will be glad to know I don't
plan to reproduce myself.

Why not add a modal window like the ldap one? Put an entry in
userdrake menu and create a sub window for Samba conf.

The question is should we go this way or rewrite userdrake in perl by
adding features to adduserdrake ?
Meanwhile, you can work on actual Gtk1 userdrake -> Gtk2 segfaults all
the time and is time consuming.

Yes the only constraints to use mkstemp is that the last 6 characters
of the target file should end with XX (to ensure the temporary
file will be unique).
I double checked this. Besides this, the patch was stolen from Redhat :p

Definately not. It was halfly ported (some segfaulting remains due to presence
of gobject in the code). The port was delayed due to lack of time.

Normand response, Maybe yes and maybe no :-)

Better solution i think. 1.9.8 was tagged "under development" and it
was enough to not include it at this stage. Maybe a post 9.1 update.

I dunno if it's the same problem but you can take a look at patch 44
in linuxconf srpms and try to do the same.

I don't know if this should be the better way to fix thing but it
works in my case ...

Try and tell me.

Ps: I want someone to test quota configuration in linuxconf. any volunteer?
