Anyway, we seem to have gotten way off the original topic here, which is
the odd behaviour of cdrom drives in 8.0 and Freq 2. Is it a mount bug?
Supermount? (I don't think so, since I un-supermounted the cd drive and
still had the same issue). Does it have any relation to it being a SCSI
drive, or is that not the issue?

Replying to my own message, it seems I was wrong, it is supermount. Found
   this thread http://www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=1065lang=en on
mandrakeforum which suggests supermount -i disable. Seems to work for me
in a quick informal test with the inst and ext cds that were giving me
   trouble.

So, goodbye, then, supermount. It was nice knowing you.

  OK thanks--missed that one.

Supermount has been pretty reliable up to kernel 2.4, but all things have to
adapt to new conditions. Newbies are the most affected, of course.

Would this supermount problem also affect IDE Zip drives? Since L-M 8.0 my ip
drive has been acting up. I have lockups and the error messages that the
interupt has been lost.

It was "normal", for I was able to login before upgrade do kde*-20010118-*

Hi all!
I've just installed LM-7.2 on my NEW (!) Dual-P3 800, it's all perfect,
even because I could compile 2.4.0-5mdk, gcc-2.96-0.33mdk, glibc-2.2.1
and gimp-1.2 for the first time without having problems.
Now, the only mistake (?) is that when I try to login as root from init 5
(I have kde-2.1pre installed, the 2.1-0.20010118.1mdk series) I'm promped
that "Root login are not allowed"
It's all OK it I login as root from init 3 and then I write startx. All
other users may login from init 5...
Anyone as this kind of problems?!
Many thanks, Claudio

[Cooker] KDE

2000-11-10 Thread David Boles

I hope that this is NOT to off topic.

I am NOT a programmer so I don't really belong here.

I have gotten no replies from the KDE-Users list so I am looking for some
information.

I ask here because it appeared that you had a hand in the KDE 2.0

Question: Why is KDE 2.0 so slow? Do I need to set something so that IT loads
faster and that applications load faster?

Question: I can see a great difference so I can understand that KDE 1.1.2 apps
don't/won't work with KDE 2.0. I have heard that there is a fix(?) or a
patch(?) or something that fixes this problem?

Question: Some apps, IE: PAN, that comes with L-M 7. take forever to load. But
actually usually NEVER load. Or KPM and TOP say that they are loaded but they
never 'display'(?). Why?

This is a major problem, for me at least. Linux-Mandrake 7.2 with KDE 2.0 is
much, much slower to respond.

Linux-Mandrake 7.2 from downloaded ISO's
AMD K6 -333
192 megs of PC-100 memoy
32 gig HD
ATA-66 EIDE HD

I will understand if you do not choose to answer.
