Re: [Cooker] 2.4 kernel

2001-02-11 Thread Don Awalt

I think this is a mistake. I did an RPM with --nodeps, and the kernel
installed fine without adding anything else (like kdeaddutils...)

I get the same error when trying to install the smp 2.4.1 kernel

Hmmm... are you sure it's the kernel package that's conflicting with
  kdeutils?

On my box the latest kdelibs conflict with kdeutils, the kernel package
  installed without any complaints...

[Cooker] Modprobe error?

2001-02-11 Thread Don Awalt

Using the cooker 2.4.1-8mdk kernel, I noticed the following message in boot
up but everything seems to be working. I tried rebuilding the initrd image.
What is this, I can't find a solution on the web (or is it an issue with the
2.4.1 kernel RPM build?)

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2

Re: [Cooker] Modprobe error?

2001-02-11 Thread Don Awalt

I just verified, when booting from kernel 2.2.17 this message does not come
up but everything else is the same in that area...

i don't think you need this package to install kernel :
So do a --nodeps there .

I've just done something similar, but the error is file conflicts, something
 like

[Cooker] Problems with 2.4.1-8mdk

2001-02-09 Thread Don Awalt

I am trying to get the 2.4.1-8mdk smp kernel installed on a 2.2.17 Mandrake
7.2 system with all the current rpms'd updated (the 2.4.1 kernel would be
the only cooker addition). I rpm -ivh the headers, source, and docs. I
then did rpm -ivh on the kernel-utils. When I rpm -ivh the kernel-smp, I
get dependency error on kdeaddutils. So I download that from cooker and
tried to -ivh and -Uvh the kdeaddutils and there is a ton of dependency
errors (libXft, libXrender, libfreetype, libmng, libstdc++, libc. Is there
something simple I am missing, I didn't think I had to upgrade a bunch of
cooker stuff to try the rpm kernel, but it's not clear to me what the
dependencies are...

Re: [Cooker] Fatal problem in Setting up network - no room to enter FQDN !

2000-09-23 Thread Don Awalt

Type linuxconf at command line prompt, click networking button on Config
tab, click Host name and IP network devices button on Client tasks tab, and
on the Host Name tab you see one text box, Host name + domain. Length of
text box is not long enough (just verified problem exists in beta 3).

I'm sorry but which tool of DrakConf? We tested "draknet" and it works..
What tool are you using? Can you also tell the exact version of package
 DrakConf and drakxtools.

[Cooker] Fatal problem in Setting up network - no room to enter FQDN !

2000-09-22 Thread Don Awalt

I just installed Beta 2, and I noticed that when I am configuring my host +
domain name, it no longer fits!

host is 6 characters
then a dot
FQDN is 26 characters (.y.zz..com)

so the total is 33 characters! Name is so longer as it is a subnet on a
public cable modem network.

This is a change since Mandrake 7.1, I cannot configure any PC on the
network!

Using DrakConf, network configuration...

RE: [Cooker] Recognizing memory

2000-06-02 Thread Don Awalt

There's a drak lilo/grub boot utility that, if you select the linux boot
entry, it will let you add an append line like mem=512M (Sorry I don't have
specific names I am not at my Linux box and I forget the names). It's on
the desktop when Mandrake comes up.

Check out the bootdisk HOWTO like at
http://www.ssc.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/Bootdisk-HOWTO.html#toc7, to read more
about the append and mem=. That should help you too..

FWIW I installed the latest beta on a Gateway dual 450 PC, and while the
installation asked about memory (and it said it saw 512MB), it did not use
more than 64MB when it booted up. The first time I installed (all installs
were fresh) I did not change anything and it saw 64MB. I reinstalled fresh,
added in 512 where it asks how much memory to use even though it saw 512,
and same thing happened. I went into Drak and added the appropriate append
line and it now sees 512 fine, so it sounds like an install bug?

[Cooker] Intellimouse

2000-05-28 Thread Don Awalt

I just installed the latest 5/23 beta build, and I found that while the MS
Intellimouse is a valid entry for my mouse (I have it, but it was not
recognized automatically), selecting it makes my mouse go whacko - mouse
flies all over the screen and it's not useable any more.
