[Cooker] DISCUSSION: Context sensitive help
Show help on screen (so that if they have mouse wheel mouse it warns about 3 button emulation) Show help on screen (so that people can know the difference between the installation types) I don't now which features will be included / skipped when I choose recommended / advanced / development, etc. Show help on screen (so that people in network configuration can figure out which driver to use for which NIC) Help explaining what Mandrake does when it starts up (and in what order). Enumerate what may be different in Mandrake configuration files / startup scripts from other distributions. It is really nice that Mandrake CAN hide the complexity and power of Linux from users but some of us (myself at least) would like to get a better understanding of how it all fits together. (Without it - it is hard for me to contribute - which I want to do.) Esko
Re: [Cooker] Proofreaders wanted
Yes. I'm interested. I have wanted to contribute to Linux for a while but don't have the technical skills YET. English. (My Dutch and Finnish language skills are mainly verbal and not good enough for proof-reading.) It is not technical proofreading, just for language good usage. There will be ponctual work as chapters become available, up to late may. Write directly to me if interested, Thanks, Camille.
[Cooker] Cooker 7.0 K6-2-450 problems...
I was pretty suspicious since this computer used to work fine under Mandrake windoze... Tried other distros and had strange problems with it as well. Well; to make long story short my hunch seems to have payed off... Out of frustration (and since the ftp install from cookers seems to be incomplete) I mounted a Mandrake 7.0 cd in one computer and am doing an ftp based install on the one that was having the problems... So far so good... (Looks like I'll be taking the CD-Rom drive out for target practice...) Esko
Re: [Cooker] Air Keeps crashing - Me too!!!
I have no problems with same motherboard with a K6-2-400. (different video configuration) It is still acting flacky. (I'm not sure if the distributed.net client is conflicting with something or if it is the setup itself. If I don't run the dnetc utility then it will run for more than a day without problems. If I run dnetc utility then it will have problems before the day is out. However; other computers here run the dnetc without problems for days on end...) That's why I'm hesitant to blame it on air... (Maybe I'll install air on the computer running without problems - it is currently running the 2nd oxygen beta) Esko On Sun, 30 Jan 2000, you wrote: I reinstalled i couldnt workout what was causing it where both runing the same chip and simular video and same ram ? when it crashes next i will spend more time investigating On Mon, 31 Jan 2000, you wrote: I also have an AMD K6-2-450 (FIC PA2013 motherboard) 132MB ram Diamond "Monster Fusion" video (But it works flawlessly on other computers here...) Re: [Cooker] 3COM 509 NIC
I have 3COM 3C509 working fine on 3 different machines here. (One is Mandrake 6.0/6.1) The other two are Mandrake 7... I think I might have had to go and update the domain field in the NIC configuration screen (under Mandrake 7) after install though... Esko
[Cooker] rmpfind.net mirror...
Poof!!! (I'm wondering where the latest cooker / Mandrake 7.0 is as well (Which directory can I find it in?) All of a sudden I have MANY more files on my local drive than the source... (using mirror utility) Esko
[Cooker] Video problems
I have a K6-2-450 on an FIC PA2013 motherboard 1.2Gig HD. 64MB RAM. After installing Cooker the machine locks up periodically when using a Diamond Monster Fusion video card w 16MB. (may be a conflict with the latest client from distributed.net) With a Trident 3DImage975 AGP (4MB) video card the standard configuration routine does not properly configure it. (I may have to manually modify the XF86Config file in order to get it to work.) Am I reporting problems that Mandrake is already aware of? (And do you want this peice of junk video card - Trident 3DImage975 AGP - for testing with.) I'd be willing to send it to Mandrake if it would result in better HW support for Linux. (Besides it has already annoyed me multiple times) Esko
[Cooker] Language choice...
I love the Mandrake 7 / oxygen. I noticed that documentation for all languages was being installed even though I selected English in the beginning. Can we get the install to default to installing documentation only for the selected language? Esko Woudenberg
