[Cooker] kpackage suggestion and link to Lexmark site

2000-04-13 Thread Gerald Howse

Check this out, RedHat is listed, why not Mandrake?

http://www.lexmark.com/software/unixtech.html#linux

Maybe you can get Mandrake on this list at LexMark

I have an Optra S 1650
(I can presently print through Samba to Win 98 machine
and is OK. Ethernet card is soon to arrive

Am presently running Mandrake 7-02 at:
http://www.one.powersurfr.com ,

Suggestion for kpackage.

It would be really great if the right pane and left pane
could be printed to capture the information to paper.
There is no list of the programs names and what they do,
this would be available to me if I could print the right pane
of a program like kpackage and thereby decide which
packages I would like to install and also to give me a list
of the files that relate to the program. The left pane would
give me a paper list of all the RPM packages that are available
on an ftp site or on the local machine. Possibly there is another
way to do this but it would be nice if print could be done
from within kpackage.

Cheers,
Gerald Howse

Re: [Cooker] /dev/fd0 - adduser - linux-conf Bug?

2000-04-03 Thread Gerald Howse

Greetings all,
Am presently running Mandrake Cooker 7-02 with RPM packages
dated to March 28th, 2000 all installed, these are from ftp.rpmfind.net
have similar problem with /dev/hdd
/mnt/cdrom is listed in mtab as /dev/hdd
with root logon both the floppy and cdrom automount OK, but if
logon as another user, neither cdrom or floppy will work.
here are images of mstab and fstab and local volume
http://www.one.powersurfr.com/images
Am also having a problem with adduser, error message re:"/etc/skel"
and the program that loads the penguin images of users has disappeared.
Does anyone know the name of that program so I can re-install it?
Also FTP connects into http://www.one.powersurfr.com
but the user is
refused access, even anonymous.
linux-conf may be causing some of these problems, see end of e-Mail.
Thanks for your help,
Gerald F. Howse

This is a packaging issue in mandrake. There are files in
/usr/ilb/linuxconf/redhat/perm. There are text file. I guess two files
are
referencing /home/ftp/pub with incompatible settings. Check them out,
these are simple text file.

I can't tell without looking at mandrake 7.0. Linuxconf is not setting
the
loopback itself. It is calling the init script /etc/rc.d/init.d/network
to
perform this tasks. This scripts is called in two different situation.
At
boot time, it is called with the option "start" and later if a
configuration change is required, it is called with the option "reload".
So the script must be defective. I suggest you
send a bug report to
mandrake.
Note that it is not even linuxconf which decide to call the script again.
Linuxconf ask the script
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/network
probe
and the script reports if it has to be called again to activate any
change. For sure, the script is calling linuxconf underneath, to find
out.
But the loopback should not be affected.

Lothair says the floppy is at /dev/hdc.
The drive works (computer boots from a boot disk)
If my floppy drive is not at /dev/fd0, how do I figure out which device

Re: [Cooker] UserDir

2000-02-17 Thread Gerald Howse

Greetings,

I have a simple question, but have been unable to resolve by reading the
MAN pages etc.

I am running Mandrake 7.0 Air at: http://www.one.powersurfr.com

directive set in httpd: UserDir public_html

When I use Drake Conf to add a user the user is added and directory
/user is created

when try to read html in the /user directory I get an internal server
error

the user index.html file is not found and is set to permissions 555
I have tried adding /user/public_html with index.html inside the
directory and that doesn't help either.

I possibly have a very simple setting that is missing or wrong.
Would appreciate any light anyone could shed on this.

Thanks,
Gerald Howse

Re: [Cooker] Supermount Problems

2000-02-13 Thread Gerald Howse

Supermount worked fine but only when I logged on as root.
The file permissions for Floppy and CDRom were set as
owner/group root for both users.
I tried changing the file/directory permissions, which has resulted
in no access from logon as root either.

This one has the Feb 10th Mandrake update, but the problem is still
the same,
they are hard to find.   I sent in a suggestion for automatic
updating.
the Feb 10th vim's are there as well.

is
7.0-12, the latest update of vim isn't even in the directory, the latest
posting listed is in January. Come on guys, why don't you make a cooker
updates directory on YOUR OWN ftp site so we can know the updates are
actually being posted. At least then you'd have direct control over
the
postings. I've NEVER done beta testing for anyone before that relied
on
mirrors to get the latest versions posted.

Re: [Cooker] Re: [CHRPM] MandrakeUpdate-7.0-13mdk

2000-02-12 Thread Gerald Howse

Thanks for your reply, but where do the mirrors get the files?

It seems to take several days for the mirrors to get them posted
and not all mirrors seem to be up to date. I finally found your
recent post after looking on several mirrors.

It would seem that a automatic update of each of the mirrors when
a new file is created would solve the problem.

Just a suggestion
