Re: [Cooker] Laptop recommendations?

2002-10-17 Thread Greg Drake
I have been pondering the idea of starting a small business installing
and selling Linux on laptops. Does anyone have any idea how much
business I may get with such a venture? I am keeping watch of this
mailing to see what some of the best laptops would be to use.

Everything on it works perfectly (USB, PCMCIA modem, PCMCIA ethernet,

XFree 3 and it doesn't work at all with XFree 4.

In my opinion good backup programs for Linux are relatively rare.

Amanda, could be one of the best free programs around. Does anyone know
where to find Mandrake RPMS of Amanda?

Hi!

Why does libglade require libasound (alsa)?

[askwar 15:31:48 /usr/home/askwar]$ gnome-config --libs libglade
-rdynamic -L/usr/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lglade-gnome -lglade -lxml -lz
-lgnomeui -lart_lgpl -lgdk_imlib -lSM -lICE -lgtk -lgdk -lgmodule -lXi
-lXext -lX11 -lgnome -lgnomesupport -lesd -lasound -laudiofile -lm -ldb1
-lglib -ldl

I've uploaded libglade-0.14-2mdk.src.rpm, which does not require ALSA, to
ftp.linux-mandrake.com/incoming.

RE: [Cooker] How to Disk Copy a full Installation?

2000-07-22 Thread Greg Drake

Would it be possible to get a copy of the script? Do you have to install
Linux first on each desktop/server, then do the untar?

Sure... The way we do it in a university setting to mass install thousands
of computers is we tar up the image and untar it over the network to all
the new installations. Then with a minor script we change hostnames, etc.

I am also experiencing problems with a Lucent Winmodem and 2.2.15. When I
attempt to dial, it says there is no dial tone, yet it initializes fine.

I have successfully used a Lucent 'winmodem' with Mandrake 7 (as
supplied by PC Plus magazine of May 2000). The information and driver
  was obtained from

  www.linmodems.org

 1. this driver is binary only, so this is not what I call supported.

 2. this same driver (I got one too) woes on 2.2.15 - therefore it's not
 supported on 7.1.

 losemodems are therefore not supported.
