Look.. I am not being an extremist.. its a fact that the current (and all
your GUIs till now) look really horrible. They are nowhere compared to Qt/KDE
GUIs.. this could be because i work with them under KDE.. if that is the case
then you guys shld make sure that gtk gets a theme which looks good under
both KDE and GNOME.. right now they simply suck... and thats the reason why i
say that it could be because of Gtk.. I know for sure that Qt and KDE
applications look the same under GNOME.. and hence if I were you, I would
 prefer Qt..

And what did you do to help?

And by the way, I use Mandrake because it is pentium optimized, not
because of something you call a nice gui.

so now hackers have a new library to hack!

And people with big mouths have to learn to shut them up.

Sorry. No sarcasm intended here. What I mean is that with this suggestion
that we have lists of packages that different people would like to use ( a
Linus Torvalds list being a list of programs that Linus would like to have on
his machine) we may end up with thousands of such lists that would bring us
to square one. Remember, the problem we are trying to solve is the number of
programs to choose from and the unnecessary duplication of function
introduced by installing many programs doing the same thing.

How about a Bill Gates selection, including ofcourse a game of patience
and the BSOD screensaver.
*grin*

Maybe it would be an idea to give the mandrake install a beginner
option. Which wouldn't install five different types of programs
for everything.
The more advanced user can of course easily choose between the
different options, but the beginner hasn't got a clue, and
probably gets confused.
When I look at the KDE menu it gives me three different kind of
editors, and vi and emacs get installed as well (When all you
really need is vi :) ), it gives me loads op media and cdplayers
(besides the console ones) etc. etc.
