[Cooker] Nautilus

2001-05-16 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello,
there is problem with nautilus-1.0.2-1mdk and
*medusa?-0.5.1-1mdk.

Nautilus cannot start due nautilus: error while loading shared
libraries: /usr/lib/libnautilus-extensions.so.0: undefined
symbol: medusa_system_services_are_blocked.

Could you fix it up? (The best would be nautilus-1.0.3 :-)))

Thank you
Michal

[Cooker] Update-menus (menu package) FIRST AID

2001-05-02 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello!
Tomorow I've installed Cooker and menu generation was broken. So
I applied my fixes and it works now.

0. First of all you should do
'rm -rf /usr/share/gnome/distribution-menus/Mandrake',
but for the first try you can skip this.

1. All changes goes to '/etc/menu-methods'.

1.a. In 'menu.h' comment lines like this
'#forcetree'
'# System'
'#endforcetree'

1.b. In 'translate-menus' change line
'substitute section-section'
to
'substitute x - y'

That's all. Let me know if does it work for you.

Enjoy!

[Cooker] Problems with update-menus

2001-04-30 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello!
I want to ask here if anybody has problems with updating menus
in mandrake 8.0.

I received few reports from my friends. They say that
update-menus takes 100% CPU and never ends!

Do you have similar problems? (Because I found the solution, but
I don't know if it is needed to make FIX into official package)

Best regards
Michal

[Cooker] xscreensaver*-3.31-1mdk

Hello Cookers!

I have problem with xscreensaver-3.31-1mdk.

After some amount of time when I try to login back -
xscreensaver-3.31-1mdk won't let me log in!

It says 'xscreensaver: child pid ... exited abnormally (code 0)'

'Code 0' seems good to me = password is OK, what do you think?

Time to go back to 3.31??? :-))

[Cooker] gtk-engines

2001-02-15 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello!
Do you plan to make new version of gtk-engines?

The current version doesn't care about not iso-8859-1 fonts. I can
fix it. Should I make patch or wait until new version?

Regards
Michal

Problem description:
For example: In /usr/share/themes/Metal/gtk there is line
font = "-bh-lucida-bold-r-normal-sans-12-*-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1"

I think that the solution is:
-font = "-bh-lucida-bold-r-normal-sans-12-*-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1"
+fontset = "-bh-lucida-bold-r-normal-sans-12-*-*-*-p-*-*-*"

[Cooker] XScreenSaver

2001-02-14 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello,
mine xscreensaver-3.28-1mdk doesn't work because he tries to find
binaries at /usr/bin/../lib/xscreensaver. The right path should be
/usr/bin/../X11R6/lib/xscreensaver.

So I made corrected xscreensaver-3.28-2mdk.src.rpm and uploaded it
into ftp.linux-mandrake.com/incoming.

Did I make it right? Or what's the right way?

[Cooker] Install from HDD tmp cleaning

2001-02-06 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello,
I d/l the whole distro onto HDD to try install it at home.

In the installation stage, DiskDrake showed that my depot disk is
mounted as /tmp/disk. I cannot change it because it was mounted. OK,
that's natural. Never mind.

But then: I chose "tmp cleaning" option. And on next boot ... -
guess! - my whole distro disk was deleted!

Solution might be:
- don't write temporary mount point for distro to fstab or
- hide that is currently mounted and permit to choose my own mount point.

Thanks
Michal

[Cooker] Kernel + devfsd + int patches

2001-02-06 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello!
1. Do you think already about using DEVFS in your official kernel?
I'm already using it and I'm very happy.
First time when I made kernel with DEVFS I had problems with alsa
drivers - EDS, did'n want to start. So I needed to switch OSS emul on and
here is the patch to /etc/modules.conf and initscripts/sound:
to modules.conf add:
alias sound-oss-pcm snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-oss-mixer snd-mixer-oss
to sound script function load_alsa() add:
grep -E "^alias( |\t)+sound-oss-" $conf_file|awk '{print
$3}'|\
while read line; do L=1; action "Starting alsa OSS
emulation: $line" /sbin/modprobe $line; done

2. Did you already thing about supporting crypto in kernel and
util-linux? (I mean int. patches) I'd like them! (I think I wouldn't
be alone.)

Thanks

Hello!
I'm using hackkernel for a long time. BUT(!!!) only one that

Newer hackkernels (from hackkernel-2.4.0-0.26mdk to
hackkernel-2.4.0-0.35mdk) doesn't work for me.

On bootup command 'mount -f /' causes coredump and booting stops.
And the error message is: Kernel BUG at highmem.c:221!

Could you have look at it? Or does anybody using raiserfs for /

Re: [Cooker] initscripts and the 2.3.99xx kernels

Hello!

 hackkernel-2.3.99pre4-1.0mdk.src.rpm

It has the "pre" on it.

If he is talking about releasing package 2.3.99pre4-XXmdk for
2.3.99-pre4-preXX instead of calling it 2.3.99pre3-XXmdk for
2.3.99-pre4-preXX, then I am not going to bother with that.

Maybe he though that after installing hackkernel-2.3.99preX-A.Bmdk he has
in /lib/modules directory 2.3.99preX-A.Bmdk but kernel is "looking for" 2.3.99-A.Bmdk.
 So there's a bug.

PS: (Only for beginners:-)) This means you have no modules loaded after boot.
Solution is in correcting modules directory by 'ln -s 2.3.99preX-A.Bmdk 2.3.99-A.Bmdk'
 or 'mv'.

Re: [Cooker] HELP

2000-04-05 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello Essam,
   I tried 2.3.99pre4 and I was quite unhappy. I recommend you 2.3.99pre3.
 I have no problem there.
For correct run 2.3.99 you need:
  -- in /etc/fstab: none /var/shm shm defaults 0 0 (you also need /var/shm
 directory)
-- devfsd daemon running (for backward compatibility - present in cooker
(devfsd-*.rpm) and is supported in newest initscripts)
  -- ??? (I hope that's enough)
But I don't know why your XFree stopped working after upgrading to 2.3.99
Regards
 Michal

After installing the hackkernel(2.3.99) I could not fire up my X-server.
 I
got the following message: Authentication Failed -- Cannot start X server
Perhaps you donot have console ownership?

Please any idea to get around this problem. I have been stucked.

 Thanks a lot.

Hi!
A few weeks ago I wrore solution of this, anyway:
In /etc/securetty already is:

To /etc/securetty add lines:

vc/3

In case that this doesn't help you, try:

1
2
3
...

Dont run msec batch because it edits /etc/securetty and remming othervalues
 than tty*.
 I hope it's helped you.

I just tried 2.3.99 with alans latest ac patch and i got problem.
I can't login as root from the console.
 In the log I get

2000-04-02 Thread Michal Rokos

Hi Will,
I try to help you, but I need to know what kernel, initscripts and msec
 packages version do you use...
Regards

Out of curiosity I attempted to "upgrade"
 and selected 'poor' for security.

Still no luck and with the custom boot disk
 and 'linux single' I get

 boot: linux single
 loading linux
 Error 0x10

Obviously my last rpm -Uvh of msec
and custom init.sh which only set security
to 'normal' should not have caused this.

Console logins as root and 'su' from a users account
are all affected which was not the case several
 months ago.

I will use a rescue disk and attempt
to alter the config files if necessary
but was hoping for another solution !?

[Cooker] Kernel 2.3.99 devfs problem

2000-04-02 Thread Michal Rokos

Hi!
I am using kernel 2.3.99 (from contrib) and I have one fundamental question...
Where is my floppy (on /dev) ??? :-))
Thanks for answers!
Michal

Re: [Cooker] Kernel 2.3.99 devfs problem

2000-04-02 Thread Michal Rokos

Hello, Jeff!

I'm using devfsd since 2.3.99 (new initscripts now counts with devfsd - thanks
 to Chmouel!).
Everything is running fine, but I can't find my floppy. Sugested /dev/fd/0
for floppy is nosence - it's symlink to /proc/self/fd. I'm not sure why,
 but it's TRUE.
   Anyway thanks
   Michal

You need to run devfsd, as pretty much the first thing in the boot cycle
(in rc.sysinit or similar) in order to get compatibility (you need
this!), unless you want to convert your system completely over to devfs.

Note that Linux-Mandrake is still essentially a 2.2.x-based
distribution, so most packages will not yet work with devfs, unless you
are running devfsd to provide compatibility devices, like /dev/fd0 etc.

   Jeff

2000-04-02 Thread Michal Rokos

Hi all!
Thanks god Jeff found why I have no floppy... The module floppy was'n intalled!
I never thought that floppy isn't statically (!!!) linked into kernel. Shame
on me - I must apology to Linus and kernel's devel team... :-))
The problem is always between the keyboard and the chair. :-))
Thanks to all
Michal

PS: Why not to compile floppy to kernel statically??? :-))

There was no /dev/floppy in the output e-mailed to me privately. It
looked like the floppy driver module isn't getting loaded. Michal? Can
you try "modprobe floppy" and then see if the floppy works?

   Jeff

Re: [Cooker] root passwd denied

2000-03-31 Thread Michal Rokos

Hi,
after I installed kernel-2.3.99 (from contrib) I had the same problem.
But I easily edited /etc/securetty file and root on VirtConsole works again.
My /etc/securetty has:
#
tty1 #for old kernels (without devfs support)
1 #for ones with devfs
tty2
2
...
#
/etc/securetty sets also Mandrake's msec batch.

I hope that this can solve yours problems.
Michal
