When using gftp on a IPv4 host, there are problems when you try to connect to a
host which also has an IPv6 address. In the logs, this error appears:
Failed to create a socket: Address family not supported by protocol
You can easily reproduce this problem by connecting to ftp.belnet.be as anonymous.

The problem happens with gFTP 2.0.15 as included in MDK 9.2 and the latest
Cooker package 2.0.16-1mdk. The included patch solves the problem. It is based
on the patch posted on http://archives.seul.org/gftp/users/Nov-2003/msg00010.html

It adds an option to enable/disable IPv6 in the configuration window. The only
difference with the original patch, is the fact that I disabled IPv6 by default,
because this actually solves the problem and IPv4 is currently more common.

[Cooker] [Bug 6131] [ghostscript] New: problem converting pdf to ps

2003-10-11 Thread [fhimpe]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6131

   Product: ghostscript
 Component: ghostscript
Summary: problem converting pdf to ps
   Product: ghostscript
   Version: 7.07-0.12mdk
  Platform: PC
   URL: http://www.cetic.be/IMG/pdf/JDLL-A1-1-Arafox.pdf
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

When trying to convert the pdf mentioned in the URL to ps with pdftops, gs
starts eating a lot of CPU time for several minutes, and outputs a ps file of 91
MB. When opening this file with gv, the file seems to be invalid: gv says it
contains only 6 pages instead of 22, the pages are empty, and in the gs messages
window the following error appears:

Error: /undefinedESP Ghostscript 7.07.1: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
 in ...
Operand stack:

Execution stack:
   %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval--

--nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3
%oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop .runexec2 --nostringval--

--nostringval-- --nostringval--
Dictionary stack:
   --dict:1051/1417(ro)(G)--
Error: PostScript interpreter failed in main window.

Converting this file with pdftops from Debian woody gives a 36 MB ps file, which
can be viewed without problems with gv.

Hmm, I reran urpmi --auto-select after this last error, and now it did work.
Smells like a urpmi bug to me (I had a similir problem with
mandrake_doc-drakxtools-en not being upgraded automatically with auto-select,
and thus causing conflicts with newer mandrake-doc-common, while running urpmi
mandrake_doc-drakxtools-en actually did the upgrade), but unfortunately I don't
have any more details and cannot reproduce it anymore.

[Cooker] [Bug 4505] [gnome-session] Splashscreen doesn't disappear

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-06-09 12:42 ---
I can still easily reproduce this bug with gnome-session-2.3.90-1mdk :
- Log out of gnome
- switch to virtual console 1
- # /etc/init.d/dm stop (should in fact not be necessary I guess, I'm using gdm
by the way)
- # rm /home/frederik/.gnome2/session
- # /etc/init.d/dm start
- login in gnome. The problem does not happen now.
- Start gkrellm
- Log out of gnome, choose to save settings
- login in gnome: splash screen stays on top...

[Cooker] [Bug 5077] [urpmi] file conflicts with libexif8-devel-0.5.9-1mdk when updating from MDK 9.1

2003-09-06 Thread [fhimpe]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5077

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-06-09 10:52 ---
I dit the following on my Mandrake 9.1 system:

- removed all 9.1 urpmi sources
- added cooker sources
- urpmi urpmi
- urpmi --auto-select

During this stage the error popped up. I was not asked to remove the old devel
in order to be able to install the new one.

I understand that devel packages of different versions cannot be installed at
the same time, but as there are file conflicts between the two packages, should
not they have a conflicts also on the RPM-level, so urpmi indeed asks to remove
the old devel package, and thus prevents the error when attempting to install it?

I was prelinking binaries on my system, but noticed some binaries could not be
prelinked because of these error:

Cannot prelink against non-PIC shared library /usr/lib/libcups.so.2
and
Cannot prelink against non-PIC shared library /usr/lib/libcupsimage.so.2

Recompiling this library with -fPIC CFLAGS should solve this problem.

[Cooker] [Bug 2135] [mdkkdm] login window starts shaking if password is wrong

2003-03-13 Thread fhimpe
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2135

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-13 09:22 ---
The Gnome login manager had a similar problem some time ago. This is what the
Gnome Usability Study found out:

We saw more than one user experience confusion over the lack of feedback when
incorrect login information was entered. If they made error while typing in the
login information (either the username or password) the system did not provide
feedback that the user had made an error. Instead, it simply returned to the
beginning of the cycle and displayed the username field again.

"I expected a dialog saying 'Wrong Username or Password'." (P3)

With no feedback from the system, users were confused about why they were
unsuccessful at logging in or where they made a mistake. Users also had trouble
discerning what to do next and some did not recognize that they were brought
back to the username field.

Sorry, but IMHO it is a very unprofessional effect.

I've got an Adapted AVA1505 ISA scsi card. When the module aha152x is loaded,

elay=1000, extended translation=disabled
Mar 10 20:00:38 Jupiter kernel: aha152x1: trying software interrupt, lost.

With the Mandrake 9.0 kernel (2.4.19-16mdk) installed on current Cooker, the
module loads fine:

Mar 10 20:16:14 Jupiter kernel: aha152x: BIOS test: passed, detected 1 controlle

Mar 10 20:16:14 Jupiter kernel: aha152x1: vital data: rev=3, io=0x140 (0x140/0x1

delay=1000, extended translation=disabled
Mar 10 20:16:14 Jupiter kernel: aha152x1: trying software interrupt, ok.

Can the aha152x module be reverted to the version included in kernel-2.4.19-16mdk?

It's difficult to say now which audiosink was installed, because I have added
several gstreamer plug-ins later. Although, I see gstreamer-alsa is installed,
but I use OSS for my sound card (trident module), so could this have been the
cause for the problem? About the crashes, maybe they will be solved when the

[Cooker] [Bug 1777] [gnome-control-center] New: http proxy set in gnome-network-preferences does not get enabled

2003-02-18 Thread fhimpe
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1777

   Product: gnome-control-center
 Component: gnome-control-center
Summary: http proxy set in gnome-network-preferences does not get
enabled
   Version: 2.2.0.1-1mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Create a new user. Start gnome-network-preferences, choose manual proxy
configuration and fill in a http proxy. Close gnome-network-preferences. Now
start gconf-editor. Choose System -> http_proxy. Notice that the use_http_proxy
variable is not checked. As a result of this, the proxy server is not used, and
for example the weather applet fails to get data from the server if you have to
use a http proxy server.

[Cooker] [Bug 1764] [nautilus] New: cd-rom desktop icon text label not updating with supermount

2003-02-18 Thread fhimpe
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1764

   Product: nautilus
 Component: program
Summary: cd-rom desktop icon text label not updating with
supermount
   Version: 2.2.1-2mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2

ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When supermount is enabled and a cd-rom is inserted, the label of the cd
correctly appears as label text of the cd-rom icon. If the cd is changed, the
label does not change. If it is impossible to change it to the correct label, I
think the label should just display "CD-ROM" statically instead of trying read
the label from cd.

Start Quanta. Log out of KDE and choose to save session. Log in again ik KDE. Quanta
is
restored but the splash screen remains on top. Only solution is to close Quanta and to
start it
normally via the K menu.

[Cooker] [Bug 1649] [drakxtools] localedrake: can't choose Belgium as country when choosing English language

2003-02-15 Thread fhimpe
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1649

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-15 23:30 ---
I had installed locales-nl. As Dutch is one of the three official languages of
Belgium (French and German being the other languages), I don't see why I should
also install locales-fr to be able to choose Belgium...
