[Cooker] Mandrake 9.1 Beta 3 and Dual Processors

2003-02-06 Thread Ross Ferson

I have used
linux for some time, but this is my first jump into Mandrake. I tried
beta 3 for KDE 3.1 anyways, i have a dual PIII 1.13 with 512 cacheon
each chip. Mandrake 9.1 b3 is not recognizing the 2nd proc. Did I
misssomething or is this a beta issue?

It appears not,

2.4.21pre4-1mdk

is uname -r result

thoughts on next step?
is it something that i would have had to select on install? I have not used
mandrake b4.

THanks

Previously the installer would determine automatically that you were
multi-processor and install the smp kernel by default. I installed
cooker on my wifes Dual Celeron a month ago, but i didn't notice if it
was using the SMP kernel. I'll have to check...

is this an undocumented bug in 9.1 b3? seems it has affected many and both
amd and intel.

  rpm -qa | grep kernel

btw, rpm -qa 'kernel-sml-*' is much more efficient :-)

 What's wrong with 'urpmq kernel'?

[Cooker] scsi scanner still not configured correctly

2002-09-03 Thread Ross Melin

Installed from beta4 and updated from cooker (VERSION
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20020903 0:32)
Harddrake still insists the scanner is on /dev/sg
It works if I enter xsane microtek:/dev/sg0 but
since there is no way to specify a port when using the
gimp plugin it just gives the error message xsane: no
devices found
This is a scanner and scsi card I have been using
without problems since MDK 6.0
I see from the list I'm not the only one whose scsi
scanner is not set up correctly.
I hope this bug doesn't make it into 9.0 final.
I will be more than happy to supply any debugging info
requested. Please reply my adress as I am not
subscribed.

Sorry if this message is a duplicate.

Thanks, rm

[Cooker] Microtek scsi scanner - beta4

2002-08-29 Thread Ross Melin

My microtek Scanmaker X6EL is not recognized in xsane.
The error message is xsane: no devices available
dmesg says:
scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER,
Rev 6.2.8
Adaptec aic7850 SCSI adapter
aic7850: Single Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 3/253
SCBs

Vendor: Model: scanner 636EL Rev: 1.50
  Type: ScannerANSI SCSI
revision: 02

Harddrake says:
Vendor: scanner 636EL
Description:
port: /dev/sg

However /dev/sg does not exist.
I will be happy to provide any information that will
help.

[Cooker] Harddrake doesn't configure my scanner

2002-08-29 Thread Ross Melin

Beta4 updated from cooker today.
Xsane works if I run xsane microtek2:/dev/sg0 but
just running xsane or the gimp-xsane plugin produces
the error xsane: no devices available.
Harddrake says:
Vendor: scanner 636EL
Description:
port: /dev/sg

Harddrake lets me manually select the model since it
reports 636el is not in the database, but there is no
dialog to manually select the port. If I could figure
out what config file harddrake writes(or is supposed
to) I would configure it myself. Help please.

Tnx

[Cooker] Konqueror crash in beta4

[Cooker] getgrnam and DCOP on HP laptop

2002-02-04 Thread Ross Manges

Hello all,

* updgraded from mandrake 8.1 to 8.2b
(was: kernel 2.4.8-34 which worked great).
* upgrade went flawlessly, but during reboot,
I get a message about getgrnam failling
and then all the boot messages are garbled
from then on (not using auroa)
* system continues to boot, but when I try to log
into KDE it complains about interprocess
communication and not being able to start
the dcopserver. Also, weirdly, the kdm login
screen can't seem to find the pixmaps.
* sound, video, and ethernet work great
* system info:
   HP Pavilion N5270 (PIII 700)
* log files:
   surprisingly nothing interesting found
in /var/log/syslog, I'm not sure where
   else to look.

I apologize if this topic has been covered before. I may be an idiot,
but I was unable to find a way to search the mailing list archive. The
search this site capability didn't search the mailing list but the
entire mandrake website instead. If anyone knows how I can search the
mailing list please let me know! Thanks!
