[Cooker] [Bug 6250] [urpmi] New: urpmi/rpmdrake fail to automatically show the kernel update after install
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6250 Summary: urpmi/rpmdrake fail to automatically show the kernel update after install Product: urpmi Version: 4.4-37mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: urpmi AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have two machines, and urpmi has not the same behaviour toward kernel updates. 1st machine : a computer with cooker. urpmi seems to work properly. When a new kernel appears in Mandrake-devel, "urpmi kernel" returns me a list of 11 available kernels with a question about which one to choose. (1-11) 2nd machine : a computer where the 9.2 DE has been installed, and Mandrake Update has been run. The kernel update does not appear in the list. urpmi kernel says everything is installed. However, urpmq kernel lists all kernels : kernel-2.4.22-10mdk (and other versions enterprise, tmb, etc...), kernel-2.4.22-18mdk and kernel-2.4.22-21mdk. To install the latest kernel, I have to type specifically urpmi kernel-2.4.22-21mdk. I was wondering if this difference of behaviour was normal, since it is exactly the same urpmi. Is it because kernel appears in "main" cooker medium in the first case, but in the update medium in the 2nd case and thus is ignored ? Should not the kernel appear anyway even in an update source ? -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5244 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-20-10 12:35 --- Allright, this is a little sad, since it is a real problem for people having routers that use class A and don't want/know to change the DHCP addressing (some routers are very tricky). lisa slows down the system dramatically then. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5694 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-17-10 11:00 --- Still the same, I checked and I have these lines. This is reproduceable easily : Last week I installed the frozen cooker on my machine by FTP : it came with kernel 2.4.22-10mdk. Bootsplash works. Then I installed kernel 2.4.22-12mdk. Bootsplash still work. Then I installed kernel 2.4.22-13mdk : bootsplash does not work anymore (vga=788, but the boot messages are in text format, and I get the "Looking for splash picture... no good signature found." message). When I try to share a folder with spaces inside its name (like "test with spaces") : - with Nautilus, clicking on "share" radio button, I get an error window with "Error while running /usr/sbin/fileshareset" message - with Konqueror, sharing is possible. When clicking on "share" radio button, the folder is correctly shared using NFS, and an entry in /etc/exports is created : "/home/zeb/test with spaces" *(ro,all_squash,sync) It correctly uses double quotes because of the spaces. However, the problem is when you want to revert to non-shared status. Clicking on "non shared" radio button, the /etc/exports entry is not removed and the folder is still shared. I did not try with Samba, but I guess it behaves the same. Please assign this to the correct maintener if I wrongly assigned it.

Actually, I know that a class A network is not a good idea, and I have been too lazy to reconfigure my router that was working like this out-of-the-box :) (a Speetouch 510v4) However, sometimes you don't have the cjhoice : at my university we use a class B network and I observed the same problem with a laptop using DHCP to connect on the LAN (strange you cannot reproduce it with 255.255.0.0). I guess the script has to consider this issue : lazy/unskilled people who have a router that gives them a class A IP (which is not uncommon on the market now), and also people who do not control their network. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5244 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-10-09 20:31 --- Allright, it is related with subnet mask indeed. I found something interesting : I tried to use static address instead of DHCP server. If I use a 192.168.0.1 with a mask 255.255.255.0, lisa can be started and works nicely. If I use a 192.168.0.1 with a mask 255.255.0.0, lisa becomes crazy. But I made a mistake : there are two lisa services that are started ! and maybe it is why it becomes crazy... $ps -A 3395 ?00:00:00 lisa 3397 ?00:00:00 lisa top gives the 3397 pid lisa 99% CPU !! 3395 root 9 0 1064 1060 1004 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 lisa 3397 root 20 0 1104 1104 1032 R 99.3 0.2 0:57.25 lisa After "service lisa stop" $ ps -A|grep lisa 3395 ?00:00:00 lisa and top gives 3395 root 9 0 1064 1060 1004 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 lisa Can you reproduce it ? I am sure this is a bug with the starting of this service when not using a class C mask and can be easily corrected. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: I have the LAN at 10.0.0.0/8. tcpdump shows that the lisa tries to do an ARP request for probably all addresses in the network and literally bombards the net with packets. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5244 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-10-09 02:36 --- Very strange : service lisa start -> lisa starts at 0.3% then after 2 seconds go to 99% CPU service network stop -> lisa stays at 99% CPU service network start -> lisa drops at 0.3% for 3-4 seconds then go to 99% CPU. But if I do (2nd solution): service lisa stop service network stop service lisa start -> lisa works ok service network start -> lisa does not go mad Then lisa does not go mad if it is started before the network ! Another strange thing : when lisa goes mad, I need to do a service lisa stop twice (I get lisa stop [OK] twice). In the second solution, where lisa does not go mad because started before the network, i just need to do it once to stop it. I checked every groups (except Servers). I checked also "select individual packages" for checking, and added one package, but did not uncheck anything. After installation, a lot of softwares are missing : documentation has not the mandrake docs, no xine, a lot of multimedia tools are mising (kdemultimedia for example). Strangely, only games requiring OpenGL 3D are installed (armagetron, chromium), I have a Radeon 8500 which is normal, but there is no freeciv. I don't know if it is related to the fact I listed individual packages, I'll try again without checking it. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5244 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-09-09 21:26 --- Still valid in RC2. I reported it in bug 4337, but this report is more technical. It may be a problem between drakconnect and the new netprofile. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: Not sure this is related to initscripts. Now, when booting, "Bringing up Eth0" pauses for 30 seconds before writing [FAILED]. I guess there is a problem in the booting sequence that makes it prevent getting DHCP information. How can I check what happens. I'll try to reproduce it.

To sumerize how it happend, I installed the system and then started : at this moment, it uses Luxi font by default. Then I installed the vera font package (fonts-ttf-vera rpm) : then KDE and qt applications use Vera, but GTK application get aliased and distorded fonts. It is only when you install the 75dpi and 100dpi packages that the fonts in GTK appear normal. So can it be a problem with the way Vera installation is handled by the system ? When I try to share a folder with spaces inside its name (like "test with spaces") : - with Nautilus, clicking on "share" radio button, I get an error window with "Error while running /usr/sbin/fileshareset" message - with Konqueror, sharing is possible. When clicking on "share" radio button, the folder is correctly shared using NFS, and an entry in /etc/exports is created : "/home/zeb/test with spaces" *(ro,all_squash,sync) It correctly uses double quotes because of the spaces. However, the problem is when you want to revert to non-shared status. Clicking on "non shared" radio button, the /etc/exports entry is not removed and the folder is still shared. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4281 Product: drakwizard Component: drakwizard Summary: DHCP config tool does not start without an assigned IP address Product: drakwizard Version: 1.8-1mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: drakwizard AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using drakwizard assistant tools, if you click on "DHCP server configuration" and your machine has (for any reason) no IP address, the assistant does not start. Despite this may seem logical, it gives no error message though. [Cooker] [Bug 4257] [kernel] New: ALSA snd-ice1724 driver is obsolete
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4257 Product: kernel Component: kernel Summary: ALSA snd-ice1724 driver is obsolete Product: kernel Version: 2.4.21-3mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: kernel AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 9.2beta1 Envy24HT card like Terratec Aureon Sky/Space are correctly recognised. However, the choosen driver was snd-ice1712. Since ALSA 0.9.4, ice17xx drivers have been splitted into snd-ice1712 for Envy24 chip AND snd-ice1724 for Envy24HT chip. So for this card (and also M-Audio Revolution), it should be the 1724 that should be used. As a confirmation, lspcidrake -v gives wrongly snd-ice1712 module for that card. Unfortunately, the packaged ALSA driver snd-ice1724 does not work with Terratec card, probably because it is obsolete. ALSA 0.9.5 has been out since, and brings better support for these cards. Please update ALSA drivers to the latest version.
