I didn't change the DHCP code of the install since 9.0..

I can't do much for you without being able to debug by myself..

(I don't actually know what installer version it is -- it's today's cooker)

I installed today's cooker with a network install: I copied images/network.img
to a floppy, and booted from it, etc.

I attempted to use DHCP mode. However, this didn't work (even though my DHCP
server is working fine).

My workaround was to assign myself a static IP.

Can't fix much without being able to reproduce here, or if one of you guys can
hack it yourself.

P.S. See bugs #1222, #2033, and 2102 for the same story.

I also have this problem. I can assign myself a static IP to be able to also
manually enter a nameserver. Otherwise, DHCP works but only insofar that I get
an IP address. My nameservers aren't configured.

I have a Netgear FVS318 and so can't look at its logs. However, this is
something that "just worked" in MDK 9.0 on the same machine, same configuraton
(computer and network).

The DHCP server is one of those NAT boxes -- a Linksys BEFSR41. So,
unfortunately, no log messages are generated for me to look at.

Your DHCP server doesn't log the problem?

Works fine on our network :/.

I tried again with today's cooker. This time, I monitored network traffic using
Ethereal (running on a Mandrake computer). The bug is still there -- fails to
communicate with DHCP server. I see 4 packets being sent out by the computer
I'm attempting to install Mandrake on -- each packet seperated by about 2-11
seconds. The packets are all of the same type. Here's what Ethereal shows
about them:

Protocol: DHCP
Info: DHCP Discover - Transaction ID 0xea4dec6e

618 bytes
Ethernet II, Src:Dst: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
Internet Protocol, Src Addr 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) Dst Addr. 255.255.255.255
(255.255.255.255)
User Datagram Protocol, Src Port: bootpc (68), Dst Port: bootps (67)
Bootstrap Protocol

No response is made to any of these packets. And yet, I know that DHCP works
fine on my network. If I get time, I'll try analyzing what happens with a
successful DHCP connection, to see what's different. Maybe the bootpc protocol
is not supported on my network ...? (I'm probably just advertising my
almost-total ignorance about DHCP...)
