Same problem here with mdk9.2rc2 . All my fonts are working fine except in The
Gimp where only about half of them seems to work.

Gimp is still GTK-1.x, so has no XFT support.

Have you tried with gimp1.3 ? For me, Gimp-1.3 shows all the fonts I have
(AFAICS), at least 100.

So, for Gimp-1.2.x, it may be necessary to generate font directory files on the
fonts, and restart the X Font Server?

I think this bug should be WONTFIX, as it's only the last few GKT-1.x apps
that have this problem ...

Mdk 9.2 RC1 : This bug is still valid and perhaps worse.

I use to add this font : http://pjarillon.free.fr/docs/euskal.ttf
With all Mdk = 9.1, I install and use this font.

Mdk9.2rc1 : DrakFont install euskal.ttf : seems good (as usual).
euskal.ttf is available for open office but not for Gimp.

I tried to upgrade XFree86 in a SuSE Linux Office Desktop 8.1 installation from
version 4.2.x to 4.3 - and experiencing some similar (even worse - KDE shows up
with a thin monospaced font, and Gnome without any font - thus no text - at
all!) font problems as with MDK 9.1 RC2. Reading the release notes of XFree86
4.3.0, it seems that the X11 directory layout and some configuration files (even
the have been changed in a way that may easily cause trouble.

So I guess this problem is caused by an incomplete (slightly anachronistic)
XFree86 4.3 setup. A DrakX / DrakFont problem rather than a GIMP problem.

This bug is more severe than normal - it's critical for desktop installations!

With gimp-1.2.3-20mdk:

- open a new blank window
- select the text tool (T)
- left-click in the blank window
- make selection in the choice of fonts and you see wether it's
available or not, for instance:

ad.mono: available
actionis: not available
adventure: not av.
avantgarde: available
babelfish: not av.
bazaronite: not av.
beast wars: not av.
...

maybe a path issue because all these fonts are apparently readable in
drakfont.

To me it looks like something is wrong with the linespacing (concerning the Gimp
menu's). Running on 1280 * 1024 display mode it's impossible to see all of the
print menu. I've seen this on two different systems in 9.1 RC2.

In addition, the Gimp system font (for the menu etc.) isn't at all what it used
to be. I experienced the same thing with the commercial Mozilla-based
application Komodo 2.3 (from ActiveState), so it's probably not a problem in
Gimp itself. I found the same problem in MDK 9.1 RC 1 and RC 2, and installing
on three quite different computers. In all cases, I tried to use the
applications as a normal user, not root.

The fonts I tried (and failed) to use with the Gimp text tool are located
somewhere below the /usr/share/fonts directory.

LogDrake gave me the following after I chose User, right after the failed
Gimp attempt. Messages refer to a directory /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont
etc. that does not exist!
