i borrowed a "xircom CreditCard Ethernet 10/100" (model CE3B-100?) managed by
xirc2ps_cs as well as a "3Com Megahertzs 10/100 LAN PC Card" (model
3CCFE574BT) managed by orinoco_cs

afaic, it should works smoothly with upcoming drakxtools-9.3-4mdk ...

could you confirm it once drakxtools-9.3-4mdk hits the mirrors ?

Just a line showing "0" (meaning no error returned?). Trying with an
intentionally mispelled module (like "blah") results in an error message and
the code 255.

Adam (comment 23):

Yup, I'm sure that the card is in the db. I attached the config patch just so
that the precise card could be added. At least, it can't hurt and may actually
help someone else.

The real problem, as I've always stated, is that DrakConnect has a problem
with how it handles the card (see comment 21 and comment 22). But no one seems
ready to try to touch that one... :(

john: if it works on hotplug it MUST already be in pcmcia config database
somehow, since AFAIK pcmcia_cs can't possibly know what to do with the card
otherwise. It may be possible the manfid is recognised by a generic entry.

sure, so I left it in.

error message from DrakConnect wizard

The famous error message, insisting that it can't insmod the module. Maybe it's
the wrong module? Maybe there's a bug in DrakConnect?

Who knows, but the card works fine. Good thing I can hand-edit the text file
even when DrakConnect poops out...

Buchan, thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, this wasn't really the problem. True, my card wasn't listed in
the pcmcia config db, but it *does* work. It comes up just fine on hotplug
(ejecting and reinserting the card), as well as ifup eth0.

Nonetheless, I have attached my card's information to this report. It wouldn't
hurt to put it in the database, if only so things were more explicit.

The real problem is that DrakConnect doesn't work with my card. It never is
displayed in the active profile, and the wizard just returns an error when I
try and use it. This is very mysterious, as I *can* use the wizard during the
install process.

I am also attaching screenshots of the wizard to better show my results.

John, can you provide the output of 'cardctl ident' on your card? Then try
editing /etc/pcmcia/config, and adding:

card ""
  version
  bind "xircom_tulip_cb"

where is the description according to marketing material, ie
printed on the card. Then, restart the pcmcia service, and 'ifup eth0', and see
if it works. If not, try it like this

card ""
  version
  manfid
  bind "xircom_tulip_cb"

And try again. If you can get it to work, mail this to gc. You look like another
victim of removal of entries from /etc/pcmcia/config ...

description:
When using the DrakConnect Wizard to set up my Xircom/Cardbus Ethernet 10/100
(PCMCIA network adaptor), I get an error in the wizard window: "insmod'ing
module xircom_tulip_cb failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/modules.pm line 61".

This occurs after clicking to continue on the page "Choose the connection you
want to configure". The error happens whether or not I've selected "auto
detection" at the start.

2003-09-04 Thread [jkeller]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2529

[EMAIL PROTECTED] changed:

   What|Removed |Added

Summary|can't configure Xircom |Xircom pcmcia adaptor
   |pcmcia adaptor |doesn't insmod -- but ONLY
   ||in DrakConnect

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-04-09 11:35 ---
Yes, this is still valid. I'm changing the titlein hope of better summarizing
the bug.

Again, this worked fine in 9.0. Since 9.1, I have been unable to use
DrakConnect. What information do you need from me to correct this?
