[Cooker] [Bug 2945] [drakxtools] Two problems: XFree86 and Drakconnect
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2945 [EMAIL PROTECTED] changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution||FIXED --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-08 21:51 --- The new DHCP-client, from a Cooker site near you, solves the DHCP problem. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: When I upgraded to 9.1beta from 9.0, XFree86 (I think) began blanking teh screen on me at intervals which seem random. It goes blank for less than a second, more than once a minute. When 9.1rc1 came out, I upgraded but the problem remained - had to reformat / and /usr, if that matters. I *had* to reformat, because tehre was no "upgrade or upgrade packages only" option, like there was when I upgraded from 8.2 to 9.0. When 9.1rc2 came out I upgraded again but the problem remained, and, even worse, now I have no Inet connection on that box. I load the Control Center and click Network and Internet and it's still configured for my DFE-530TX NIC (which uses the 8139too alias). I click Connect and it says "connecting to the internet ..." but then it says "connection failed." I can boot [Ugh!] Win98 and there is no problem. I can open a konsole window and I can ping 12.223.2.8 or 12.223.2.9 just fine, but I can't ping insightbb.com. That's odd because 12.223.2.8&9 are the IPs insight uses to register NICs with their service. In fact I can type 12.223.2.8 in a konqueror window and I get the standard "You are currently subscribed to insightBB.com. Your account is active". Of course insight's "tech support" is useless, as they say they don't support linux, and indeed, I can GET connected just fine running Winduhs. I am at a loss. HELP

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2945 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-08 17:30 --- Yes, I meant update to the latest dhcp-client, but you need "dhcp-client-3.0-2pl2.5mdk.i586.rpm" from a cooker mirror. This is the fix. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When I upgraded to 9.1beta from 9.0, XFree86 (I think) began blanking teh screen on me at intervals which seem random. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2945 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-08 17:01 --- that the "Today's update"? I can't find anything on qa.mandrakesoft.com that contains the word dhcp that looks pertinent - Do you have a bug number that explains how I fix this? snip--snip--snip /etc/resolv.conf: searchhost local snip--snip--snip rpmfind.net has dhcp-client-3.0-1rc9.3mdk.i586.rpm. I booted W98 and downloaded it to my windows partition, now I'm booting Mandrake , from where I will install it. I doubt that that's what you meant, is it? :) --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When I upgraded to 9.1beta from 9.0, XFree86 (I think) began blanking teh screen on me at intervals which seem random. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2945 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-08 06:00 --- That is one of the many. Today's update was supposed to solve this and also the dhcp hostname setting issue. I can vouch personally that the hostname is being set properly now, but somebody having the improperly set /etc/resolv.conf needs to update and check. Post the contents of your /etc/resolv.conf Update dhcp-client and see if the same thing happens. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When I upgraded to 9.1beta from 9.0, XFree86 (I think) began blanking teh screen on me at intervals which seem random. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2945 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-08 05:40 --- Hmm ... I looked at the DHCP bugs - are you talking about Bug # 2796? I admit that I'm at sea here. When I run DHCLIENT in a konsole as superuser, I get the copyright info, then snip--snip--snip- "listening on LPF/lo/ Sending on LPF/lo Listening on LPF/eth0/00:50:ba:58:c2:10 Sending on LPF/eth0/00:50:ba:58:c2:10 Sending on Socket/fallback DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8 DHCPOFFER from 192.168.100.254 DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 DHCPACK from 192.168.100.254 bound to 192.168.100.141 -- renewal in 39804 seconds. -snip--snip--snip I then try to ping yahoo.com and I get "unknown host yahoo.com". When I ping the insightbb IP which assigns leases to NICs, however - 12.223.2.8, it pings normally, with an average rtt of about 50 MS.
