 I ran drakedm to try and correct this and after selecting mdkkdm as the login
 manager a /etc/sysconfig/desktop file was created with the following entry in it.

 DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE

 I believe it should be

 DISPLAYMANAGER=MDKKDM

No, afaik mdkkdm is named KDE here, and kdm is named KDM. Open
`/usr/sbin/drakedm' with a text editor.

I just confirmed this doing a fresh cooker install. There is no
/etc/sysconfig/desktop file and the contents of /etc/sysconfig/autologin is

AUTOLOGIN=yes
EXEC=/usr/X11R6/bin/startx.autologin

Where is default desktop defined if no /etc/sysconfig/autologin is present?

Here is the scenario. I did a fresh cooker install.

Standard install, created three users. Elected to not use autologin by leaving
default choices. Balance of install went without issue. Even though I left autologin
unselected during the install /etc/sysconfig/autologin had AUTOLOGIN=yes set, but it
did not take effect because the autologin package was not installed. Also, no
/etc/sysconfig/desktop file was created.

To correct I used the drakboot module to set autologin on and then back off.
/etc/sysconfig/autologin now has AUTOLOGIN=no which is correct and the
/etc/sysconfig/desktop file has been created

[EMAIL PROTECTED] greg]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/desktop
DESKTOP=KDE

/g

I believe it should be

DISPLAYMANAGER=MDKKDM

Could this be why people are reporting mdkkdm taking so long to start.

the default desktop is found in /etc/X11/prefdm line 66

for the rest, this is just normal behaviour, i don't see any problem

Okay, thanks gc, I agree with invalid. I notice things have recently changed and I
did not pick it up.
