This is not a bug report.. You are asking for a feature, that you can add
yourself, using the Add to Panel submenu..

Moreover, there is no volume control applet because it causes error message if
there is no sound card available

Ofcourse I can add it myself.  But the point of the bug report is that defaults
matter.  I suspose if you removed everything from the panel that would not be a
bug?  People expect a volume control.  And not having one interferes with a
persons use a of Gnome.  Having to add one is like having to add the clock.


However, Now I understand the reason for this bug I suspose I'll head over to
the gnome Bugzilla and file a report on this fact.

Why do people expect a volume control? Bizarre notion. I've just checked with
the GNOME guys, there is no volume control on the panel by default. There's no
volume control on the KDE panel by default either. You want a volume control,
add a volume control. Stupid bug.
