Hi.

I supposed bug closed from 7/3/2003 after email exchange with
qa.linux-mandrake.com and pixel.

But I tested again with

# more /home/tmp_hdb5_ext3/inst1/VERSION
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20030314 21:05

I don't see any major difference, with or without good password.

So I repeat 7/3/2003 response to qa.linux-mandrake.com

Hi.

Mandrake 9.0 update install fails with encrypted filesystems when he checks
installed packages.

You need to suppress encrypted filesystems like

 /dev/hda8 /home2 ext3 encryption=AES128,encrypted 0 0

from /etc/fstab before update

Hi.

I understand very well your difficulties, so maybe just a precise big
warning
is the precaution for this release.

Maybe in front of password typing add a warning like

BE CAREFUL. THAT'S A ONE-SHOT PASSWORD TYPING.
IN CASE OF WRONG TYPING, YOU WILL BE BLOCKED IN FEW STEPS,
AND YOU WILL NEED TO RESTART INSTALLATION.

Many thanks.

Best regards.

Good luck.

BCL

PS (Not for this bug, but concerning install)

a) (Seriously) I thing that neutral selection for language
(America,Africa,Europe...)
is better than actual "ENGLISH AMERICA FIRST".
Neutral selection mean all geographical areas closed like actual Europe.

b) (More funny) Maybe add a worldwide area for esperanto and equivalent.

alas, this i can't do since it would change too much things in the
code, and possibly break :-(

this would of course be the right solution. It should be there in next
release...

easy. done

thanks!

Hi.

Nice job (80%).

Now install works, when encrypted password is succesfully typed
with recent cooker.

# more /home/tmp_hdb5_ext3/inst1/VERSION
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20030307 16:49

But if you mistype password, install fail on /dev/loop checking.

Maybe an early verification (mounting encrypted filesystem and ask
to type again password if mount fail) will permit to ensure correct
password.

Another enhancement is to mask typed password with stars like
any password typing.

Best Regards.

Hi.

Sorry for late response.

Bad news, bug 517 still is a bug with recent cooker

# more /home/tmp_hdb5_ext3/inst1/VERSION
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20030302 0:35

Symptoms still are the same.

Workaround still is suppression of encrypted filesystem in /etc/fstab
before update.

I put again below description of minimal commands for best reproduction
of the bug.

I think that it's not a fatal bug, but it's useful to place it as
<>.

Best Regards.
