         Component: drakxtools-newt
Summary: Installation of Mandrake 9.2RC2 on a Western Digital
                    drive fails
           Product: drakxtools-newt
           Version: 9.2-10mdk
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P2
         Component: drakxtools-newt

        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The installation of Mandrake (9.1 and 9.2RC1 and RC2) fails with this error
An error occured
An error occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems.
Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.

My Harddrive is Western Digital (WD400AB)

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace switch me to the console which says:
Entering step `Hardware drive detection'

I also tried the text install but exactly the same problem. Ctrl+F3 shows the same
error
with little more details:
*test_for_bad_drives (/dev/hda)
*warning: read error: can't open read (Input/output error) at
"/usr/bin/perl-install/partition_table/raw.pm line 177 "

It seems as if there is a code written in raw.pm to handle errors with Western Digital

drives. I met across this problems in two systems now. Both of these systems have
Windows and RedHat installed perfectly.
