[Cooker] [Bug 5846] [icewm] New IceWM is broken
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5846 [EMAIL PROTECTED] changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution||WORKSFORME --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-22-09 10:48 --- Icewm is used on a daily basis in the RD and it works fine for all of us ... and of course, you must be kidding, the ./icewm/preferences is a custom configuration file, so we are not going to erase with the general one ... what a strange idea !! -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: icewm-1.2.13-0.3.1mdk installed this morning runs but is completely unusable: There is no taskbar/toolbar or any menus available; left, right and middle click of the mouse buttons do nothing. CTRL-ALT-BSPC is disabled or not working(cannot quit X / icewm) requiring user to go to VC and kill the icewm-session. Oddly( since it is in the middle of the preferences file) the DesktopBackgroundImage gets loaded but apparently nothing else. I waited ~ 2 minutes for IceWM to load the first time; normally it takes about 5 seconds to load everything. It worked before the 9-9.2 upgrade _and_ it was working with RC2 version(quite nICEly I will add) before the new cooker version was installed. Probably a config error somewhere(Ima-huntin) but the upgrade should not have done that. Note that someone with only IceWM installed will not have a readily available/usable X system if they get this bug too so I marked it blocker.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5846 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-22-09 14:26 --- ...so we are not going to erase with the general one ... what a strange idea !! Yes, it would be strange if that is what I wrote but it is not. I also did not write that a properly installed IceWm did not run. If MDK installs IceWM and a user config file keeps the install from working properly, the end user is going to think that MDK did a bad job of installing the programs. I am glad that RD folks use IceWm all the time, SO??? I have been using it on off for 3 years and the version I had ran just fine too. Big deal. New versions of IceWm often have conflicts with old user config files. The preferences format changes frequently but MDK has never done anything to avoid the conflicts. This was an opportunity for MDK to remedy that problem. If you do not want to fix it, fine. I reported it so I am done. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: icewm-1.2.13-0.3.1mdk installed this morning runs but is completely unusable: There is no taskbar/toolbar or any menus available; left, right and middle click of the mouse buttons do nothing. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5846 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-20-09 10:33 --- It is a config error. I removed the ~/.icewm/preferences file and IceWM loaded with all the widgets. I have not yet found what in the ~/.icewm/preferences file causes it to hang (actually have not looked yet). I think the fix here is, during the upgrade-install, to replace the current user config file ~/.icewm/preferences by changing the name to 'preferences-old_version' (or something like that...) so that the newly installed default /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icewm/preferences file will be used. The user will not get the user's custom config but IceWM will load/run/work. That's better than having a user looking at a blank screen with no keyboard or mouse control. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: icewm-1.2.13-0.3.1mdk installed this morning runs but is completely unusable: There is no taskbar/toolbar or any menus available; left, right and middle click of the mouse buttons do nothing.
