Re: [Cooker] [Bug 6374] [Installation] 9.2 for AMD64, RC1 installation failure
Hi, (beginning of error messages) error in exec of Stage 2 :-( trying to execute '/usr/bin/runinstall2' from the installation volume the following fatal error occurred FATAL ERROR IN STAGE1: I/O error I can't recover from this. you may reboot your system. ---(end of error messages)- Do you have more information on the 3rd or so console (Alt-F3)? Is this specific to Mandrake Linux in both 32-bit 64-bit versions?

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6374 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-17 19:33 --- Yes, I have the latest (F2) version of the BIOS. I tried idle=poll, and the former error messages did not occur. However, I got the following error: (beginning of error messages) error in exec of Stage 2 :-( trying to execute '/usr/bin/runinstall2' from the installation volume the following fatal error occurred FATAL ERROR IN STAGE1: I/O error I can't recover from this. you may reboot your system. ---(end of error messages)- This is, in fact, the same message I get when trying to install the current regular release of 9.2. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: I get the following error notice: unable to handle Kernel paging request1 at 8010dbec RIP: [8010dbec] PML4 1f5e0067 PGD 0 oops: 0010 CPU 0 Pid: 0, comm: swapper not tainted RIP: 0010[8010dbec] RSP ( a bunch of register settings I have omitted)- 0Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task! http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6374 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-17 19:43 --- NEWS FLASH! On a hunch, I removed one of my two sticks of 512 Mb Kingston KHX3200 memory, and I was able to get past all these errors and go to the first page of the installation menu, asking for my choice of languages. I will attempt to continue the install from there.stay tuned.. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6374 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-18 02:24 --- MORE GOOD NEWS: I now have successfully installed the AMD64 RC1 version of 9.2. However, I am still running with only 512 MB of memory. I have determined that the last problem outlined above was probably due to CD I/O errors. The CD reader is a Plextor 708A, and is not the burner used to create the CD, which burns at 8X maximum speed. I just kept trying to do a clean install, and finally was successful. My next experiment will be to add more memory and see if I can boot up. I can do so successfully under M$ Windows. One more problem: I was unable to create a floppy boot disk during the install. I will try again from the Mandrake Control center. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: creation_date: description: I get the following error notice: unable to handle Kernel paging request1 at 8010dbec RIP: [8010dbec] PML4 1f5e0067 PGD 0 oops: 0010 CPU 0 Pid: 0, comm: swapper not tainted RIP: 0010[8010dbec] RSP ( a bunch of register settings I have omitted)- 0Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task! http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6374 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-18 04:20 --- I guess I should start a new thread for this issue: Although I have now successfully installed the AMD64 version, I cannot get it to run with 2 sticks of identical 512MB Kingston Hyperx 3200 memory. If I take one stick out, it runs fine. I hope someone else can corroborate this error as a software error, because my hardware seems just fine when running Windows XP.
