This is not a bug.

Anyway, the best way is to create an empty partition, and install the beta/rc
there. When prompted about where to place the bootloader, choose to put it in
the first sector of the root (or boot) partition. Then, after installation you
will still get your old installation. Start drakboot, and add another boot entry
of type "Other", using the partition you just installed on. You should now be
able to boot the beta/rc.

Hi There, 
 
 
I'm running Mandrake 9.0 and would like to help in debugging the next version 
but how do you install the beta on the same hard drive in such way that it's 
also very easy to remove afterwards. 
I couldn't fine anything on this topic on the net. 
I already have things to say about diskdrake and etc but I'll wait until I 
know howto install the beta. 
 
Sorry for writing this here, but I gues it's a small bug. The user can easilly 
find where to download but from there on he's on his one. Maybe a small link 
to the doc's could be added for the future
