[root@localhost /root]# ddcxinfos | head -1
4096KB of video ram
[root@localhost /root]#

And I have 8M onboard, this has been a persistant problem and I don't
know how to fix it

So do I, but DrakConf detects the card as a G400 with 16MB. This is only
a very minor annoyance to me, but it doesn't inspire confidence in the
operating system

Me too - my Matrox G400-32 always gets detected as having 16MB RAM -
here's my output:
[23:11 peter@penguin:~]$ su -c "ddcxinfos | head -1"
Password:
32768KB of video ram

i really don't have a clue on how to fix this :-/

Pixel,

ddcxinfos | head -1 gives "2048KB of video ram" whereas on my Mandrake 7.1
system it gives the correct answer of "8192KB of video ram".

This is another indication that this is the same problem we worked on
without resolution with 7.2beta3 and which seemed to affect the whole family of
Matrox cards.

can you give the output of "ddcxinfos | head -1" ?

[Cooker] Experiences with odyssey-rc

2000-10-16 Thread Craig Van Degrift

Install from hd.img of odyssey-rc-inst.iso on SCSI (Adaptec 2940) system with
Matrox Millennium - 8MB and SB AWE-32 PnP sound card using recommended install.

The "Select Partition" window says "select partition and directory where
Mandrake/RPMS is located", but for an iso image installation this is a bit
confusing; one must enter the full path to the iso image including its
filename. Perhaps the install routine should look in the specified directory
for a suitable ISO image when the ISO image button is pressed. As is, it
gives a cryptic error message. Also, I am puzzled by the purpose of the SCSI
button.

Since RedHat's simple install destroys all previous Linux partitions, Mandrake
might note in the help message that the installer will retain sufficient
control in the recommended install to protect exitsing Linux systems in other
partitions. I was nervous about trying the recommended installation because of
the way RedHat does it.

On my Matrox, as I noted in an earlier message with respect to beta-3 on this
mail list, Aurora fails. This failure mode is the same on Odyssey-rc. I
needed to do vga=extended but the normal new user will struggle to figure that
out.

My DSL and HP-5L printer were correctly configured. Congratulations!

My Sound card SoundBlaster AWE-32 PnP didn't get setup and I was unable to set
up it with HardDrake (perhaps my lack of skill, but good old sndconfig always
made it so easy). I notice that sndconfig is not installed.

As noted in an earlier message on Beta-3, my Matrox's 8MB is still not
recognized. This limits the resolution of the installed system and fouls up
the behavior of the X configuration options in DrakConf.

I certainly hope these can be fixed for the next release.
