I've always "jimmyed " this up by hand with a apppropriate sym-link. Yes I
know it is nasty, but it works, or at least did the last time I tried. WOrks
with ALL the various linux distros I have tried it with.

Thanks all,

I've updated to the latest version and it works now. Beta 2 looks like
the best Beta2 ever!

Ah, there was a bug in rpm-4.2 where it had problems with installing 2
packages with the same provides. Both packages provide libstdc++, so that's
where things went wrong then.

Actually, I was able to do it on current cooker, but not my "stable"
cooker from May 18. On current cooker, you can force it on, and
libstdc++5 doesn't get uninstalled. On the older cooker it did (and
everything broke). Reinstalling libstdc++5 again left libstdc++2 in
place, fixed the problems, and left a working Flash plugin.

Someday I may actually understand this stuff.

Does anyone have the flash plugin working?

I get the following error:

error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 is needed by flash-plugin-6.0.79-1

Is libc6 still supported?

You can't do that without nuking most of your installation, as it
uninstalls the other version of libstdc++, which tons of packages depend
on.

No, the libraries are versioned, so they can coexist.

# rpm -qa |grep libstd
libstdc++5-3.3.1-1mdk
libstdc++5-devel-3.3.1-1mdk
libstdc++2.10-2.96-0.82mdk

I went to Macromedia's page and tried to install their flash
plugin and it didn't work with Mozillia1.4-2mdk.

Macromedia's install said that a failed dependancy was missing
of  libXm.so.2

I solved the dependancy issue by doing a urpmi libXm.so.2 from
the beta2 cd.

Flash ships with Netscape, which is proprietary
software, but Flash is open source (not that the
community has really done anything with the source).

Flash is proprietary software, so you will no longer find it in the
download (ie Free Software) edition of the distro.. It will be available
in boxes or on MandrakeClub (I'm not sure for this one)

No, you have to make sure to install the *plugger* package. It
supports most
Netscape MIME types (flash included), but not RealPlayer.
