have created on Sunday a very fresh mirror update from the cooker ftp
server
and have burned the 2 CD's ... experienced the same problems

It is the latest changes to ldconfig made by Pixel which causes all
these 
problems, since I have burned the same 2 CD's only with the outdated
version
of ldconfig which has as latest change something made by Chmouel and
these
problems disappeared

The only thing is the icon problem Anton wrote about, the "original"
helixcode
rpm's don't have these problems

I figured out what the problem was.  Anything having to do with X won't
run until after ldconfig is run after the install is done.  Once I did
an ldconfig I could run the text version of DrakX and get X configured
and started.
