Do you really need to tamper with this file ?
I use netscape 4.70 included in 7.0, without imwheel and netscape window
(and gtk file dialog) scroll with the mouse button... I did not edit any
file.

This is part of my /etc/X11/XF86Config (yes, I have a MS intellimouse :-(,
and sometimes it bugs! The pointer on the screen shakes up and down, to
the screen edge...). Does yours have a ZAxisMapping also ? Perhaps you
should also put a "Buttons 5" of similar... ?

Ok, so you moved the resourse entries to the
"/etc/X11/imwheelrc" file? I see some entries there
for "Netscape" and "Navigator", but I only have
installed the common and communicator packages; could
that be the culprit? How do I diagnose this? Here is
what I have installed:

netscape-communicator-4.73-3mdk
netscape-common-4.73-3mdk
imwheel-0.9.8-1mdk

Thanks

He, he, sorry, it is:

".Xdefaults"

and

"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/Netscape"

Ok, all you need to do is to add the following to your
".Xdefaults" file, then run "xrdb ~/.Xdefaults", and
then restart netscape; or simply add the stiff and
restart X.

No. Wheel is now activate by Imwheel (for all X applications and not
only some of them) and this one conflicts with modifications in X
ressources.

Hello??? Did you read my email at all??

All you need to do is put the X resource entries for
netscape either in your
"/usr/X11R6/lib/app-defaults/Netscape" or in your
"$HOME/.Xresource" file; I recommend the later, since
the other one is version sensitive.

And that is exactly what I am pointing out, that the
Xresource entries for button 4 & 5 are missing from
the netscape application defaults resource file in the
current cooker packages! I guess somebody updated the
file to 4.73 and forgot to add those.

Eugenio,

... Trying to get wheel to work on Logitech first mouse in Netscape. Wheel
works for many other apps already.

Edited pointer section of /etc/X11/XF86Config to include the following:

Buttons 3
ZAxisMapping 4 5
#emulate 3 buttons (these are
#emulate 3 timeout commented out)

I also put a copy of imwheelrc in my user home directory.

I restarted X.

All this got the wheel to work in Netscape for all betas earlier than iso
beta3.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bobby

Re: [Cooker] Netscape app-defaults & wheel

2000-05-25 Thread Eugenio Diaz

Dude, I have been using a wheel mouse in Linux since
before Mandrake existed!

First, my wheel mouse is working fine.

What I pointed out was that the latest netscape cooker
(let me remind you this *is* the cooker mailing list,
it just happens it gets also used for debugging
Mandrake pre-releases) packages I installed
(4.73-3mdk), contain a X resources file with no
support for wheel mouse; were previous versions of the
packages did.

BTW, if you don't know what the X resource file for
netscape is, it is:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/Netscape

And no, I don't have a problem; I can easily solve it
by adding the wheel support definitions to the file my
self. But the cooker netscape packages do have a
problem, and that is what I am doing in the **cooker**
mailing list, helping debug **cooker** problems, not
whining about "this and that not working"!

Sorry for the rant, but it is that some people think
this is a whiner's list to complaint about their
problems with this and that, when it is supposed to be
the development mailing list for Mandrake; i.e.
**cooker**.

He must check that he hasn't set the "emulate 3d button" option.
99% of the reports of mouse wheel not working are due to that reason.
