You have to configure the mouse with the keyboard before touching the mouse.
I remember it being stated on the startup screen someplace.

I re-installed cooker with the old installer and installed XF86Setup.
It now no longer works at all, no matter what I do. The IMPS/2 mouse
is not recognized and causes the mouse cursor to activate the button
in the top right corner. I made a bug report 6 weeks ago about this.

I think I'm going to put Linux away for a few months and check back in
the new year.

Found out that XF86Setup was not installed. I installed it and got the
following error when trying to run it:

"Not all of the configuration and application default files are
installed. The file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc is missing"

Yes. Both worked fine. The only GUI error was the ghostscript problem
and an initial "permission denied" with my mirrored cooker files. Used
"mirror" to mirror cooker to /usr/local/cooker.

The config file is OK for the mouse. It just became unusable during
the test of the x configuration during panormix install only. It
worked after I did two cr's to accept the failed x configuration.

My card used to work fine several months ago with the XFree86-SVGA. I
manually added the noblt about 4 versions ago to make it work. (BTW,
what is the proper name for that option???)

BUT, with this option, moving windows or scrolling is not nice and
smooth, like in Windows. The displayed image "waves"

first of all, panoramix did goes all right through the install ?
i mean, the mouse did work at install, and also the X server?

So the generated XF86Config isn't nice with your poor mouse...
Could you try

perl -ne 'print if /"Pointer/ .. /Device/' /etc/X11/XF86Config

and tell what's wrong?

as for the option, you mean adding `` Option "noblt"' ?
The best would be to patch /usr/lib/X11/Cards but that's quite tough (needs a
regeneration of XFree86 rpm's (chmouel?))
another solution would be a hack somewhere else in the XFdrake code...
i'm looking at it...

[Cooker] Panoramix failed on x configuration

1999-09-29 Thread Terrapin

It appears that XFree still screws up my GD5446 video card. In
addition, my IMPS/2 mouse went nuts at this time (this is new).
Unfortunately. I was unable to fix XF86Config because neither emacs or
joe were available. I don't know vi and was unable to make sense of
the help files so I can't fix it. (vi is too crunchy ;-) )

I also cannot run XF86Setup with a linux 3 boot. File not found. How
come the path has not been set? I could fudge this setup to get it to
write a good enough XF86Config file.

BTW, I reported the problem with the GD5446 several times over the
last month. The fix (although it is not a very nice one) is to set
Options "no_blt" in the device section for the video card.
