[Cooker] Re: install faiure
I have a generic laptop about 3 years old (www.qlilinux.com). 256 meg 18 gig Toshiba Toshiba DVD-ROM The install program does not see the cd. It will not boot from the cd. First I used dd to make a floppy image. That didn't work so I followed the directions in install.htm and used a windows machine to use rawwritewin. The result is the same. After loading I get a dialogue "I can't access a Mandrake-Linux Installation disc in your CD-ROM drive (TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2302)". So even though the install program recognizes the drive correctly it cannot access the drive. If I take the "back" option it asks which SCSI driver to load. The laptop has no SCSI interface. I have eliminated the posibility of bad media by testing on desktop machines where the cd boots without a problem. Previous versions of MD have not had this problem. The current RH beta has the same problem and I am wondering if this is a byproduct of both distros switching to isolinux? Chuck Davis

Re: [Cooker] RE: INSTALL
Ok. i think this is an ftp timeout problem like we were having before. If i go through the setup, and skip the partition format (i.e. i select mount points but then tell it not to format) it installs fine. So it seems the ftp connect to my server is timing out during the partition format. - Original Message - From: David Foresman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2000 2:09 PM Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: INSTALL > Well, i regot everything off the mirror, and it still doesn't see an hdlists > > ? > > - Original Message - > From: David Foresman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2000 1:47 PM > Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: INSTALL > > > > this is about my 20th cooker install. this is about my 20th cooker install. I like to repartition my drives all the time, don't ask me why. And, since so much development is going into DrakX, i like testing that too to see if there are any problems. hdlists and hdlist.cz2 are both there, the installer is just not seeing it for me. i do use fmirror. right now i'm regetting the entire mirror, then i'm going to try it again. - Original Message - From: Brook Humphrey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2000 2:01 AM Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: INSTALL > yea sorry about that. yea sorry about that. I was trying to say if he uses fmirror from a script to make sure he doesn't have the hdlist filtered out. i normally mirror from rpmfind.net, but i have also tried sunsite.uio.no, and it doesn't work either. - Original Message - From: Pixel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2000 12:36 PM Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: INSTALL > "David Foresman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > Ok, i'm still trying, but every time i install i get a cannot find = > > hdlists. > > i'm currently installing from > ftp.free.fr:/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrake-devel/cooker so the pb must be > with your mirror. > >

[Cooker] RE: INSTALL
Ok, i'm still trying, but every time i install i get a cannot find hdlists. i have tried getting cooker from another mirror, and it still says the same. When I ftp directly from the mirror, i get the same. I'd attach a ddebug.log but it doesn't give any information. Directly after formating the partitions, before package selection is when i get this error.

[Cooker] RE: Install
I know someone said they fixed the installer timeout in ftp installs a couple of weeks ago. But I just ran the installer, and it still time's out during package selection. Also. I have an HPT366 controller (abit bp6) and I let the installer make changes to my boot floppy on the first boot to allow for the drives on this controller. After the boot during scsi detection i get the following error. An Error occurred. Undefined subroutine &pci_probing::main::probe called. This is during an expert->development install.

Re: [Cooker] RE: install
Ok. I got the error again. I think what is happening is the ftp connection to the server is timing out during my file selection, so when it goes to copy the files, the ftp connection is no longer there. maybe you can force a reconnect of the ftp connection before the rpm install starts. I have attached the ddebug.log from my last install. - Original Message - From: David Foresman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 12, 2000 11:33 AM Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: install > I can't find the problem. Re: [Cooker] RE: install
I can't find the problem. I went through install again and it didn't crash. In fact the install went fine. Here's some more information, since i think it has to do with finding the packages. I do an ftp install to an ftp server i have running on my mandrake 6.1 firewall at 192.168.1.1 i log in as a user, not as anonymous. I had a ddebug.log but it did not copy correctly. if i can get it to crash again, i'll send you the log. - Original Message - From: Pixel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 12, 2000 10:41 AM Subject: Re: [Cooker] RE: install > "David Foresman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > Ok. [Cooker] RE: install
Ok. If I go through package selection and add individual packages, I get the crash message. Console 1 Entering Step 'Install System' expose_event hdlist2names: not found Console 3 Step `doInstallStep' Finished running: dumpkeys > /etc/sysconfig/console/default.kmap with root /mnt exec of dumpkeys > /etc/sysconfig/console/default.kmap failed: No Such file or directory warning: dumpkeys failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/keyboard.pm line 236 Console 3 also showed a whole bunch of errors leeding up to this, but i wasn't able to see them. A lot of failures and other errors.
[Cooker] RE: install
Ok, it must have had something to do with the packages I selected. If I stepped through the installer, but did not add any packages outside of the normal list it installes fine. I'm doing and expert/development install.

"David Foresman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > An error occured, but I don't know how to handle it nicely. > Continue at your own risk. > dumpkeys failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/keyboard.pm line 236. this always mean bad things happened. I've just added a better error message for this one: -x "$o->{prefix}/usr/bin/dumpkeys" or die "Some bad packages didn't get installed properly. Please switch to console 2 (using ctrl-alt-f2) and look at the log file /tmp/ddebug.log Also look at consoles 1,3,4,7"; could you follow this advice and tell what's there?
[Cooker] RE: install
I spoke too soon. On the new installer i now get this error. (parden the typing. i have to switch screens. An error occured, but I don't know how to handle it nicely. Continue at your own risk. dumpkeys failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/keyboard.pm line 236.
[Cooker] RE: install
I love the new package selection tool. It's much easier to figure out what is getting installed and what is not. I especially like the ability to click on "all" and select individual packages. Very nice. Very good job. I love cooker :).
